The Ulitmate Prepster- Lilly Pulitzer

The ultimate prepster, Lilly Pulitzer died yesterday at age 81. Nothing screams summer more than a colorful Lilly dress. And how appropriate her clothing was so colorful...as it matched her colorful back story and just how she started her clothing line. We carry her clothing at the store and do extremely well with her line. Just tomorrow I'm getting a huge amount of it in. I will have to take special care arranging the shop tomorrow. My first year at the store she actually came to our store for a huge Lilly show, where I had did the windows, and the in store display featuring her clothing on a runway of mannequins. She was so pleased with the set up, she gave me a men's tie as a thank you. It would probably come in handy at a Republican fundraiser, probably which I will never attend mind ya, but I will treasure the tie. She seemed like a sweet lady. And her head quarter showroom here in King of Prussia is a sight to be seen!!!! I  imagine now she is in the great fruit orchard in the sky.

  3. My dearly departed mother LIVED in Lilly come the summer months.I do believ most of her things are still in the attic at the family home. Her all white dresses were so chic and clean looking.

  4. A fashion icon! I have to floor length dresses she did, which were rare, for some of my shows I do. So retro looking. Nothing like a Lilly sheath dress.

  5. I love Lilly's clothing. I first came to love it when I had to wear one of her dresses as a bridesmaid dress. My friend had a whole Lilly wedding. Since then I do have several pieces, but try to limit my wearing. Outside of Flordia, you get some looks like, your way to preppy honey. I love your story though, very cool!

  8. Mistress, you and her would have gotten along as she loved herself some gin! You should read her book if you get a chance. Her line defined my summer wardrobe as a child in the 80's. I'm very sad to hear this but am pleased the line has been introduced to a new generation over the past decade. Raise your Gin and tonic in a cheer to the force that was Lilly. Tomorrow I may even wear one!

I had no idea that she was still alive, I would love one of those crazy dresses, they are ugly but fabulous, jolie laide as the French would say.
