MOOD BOARD

This is what happens when you have five days off, one tends to get very relaxed, and laze about. But it's that what the holidays are for? I have one friend who has started running around like a chicken with his head cut off already, doing this and doing that...I told him to slow down and sit and enjoy a movie or cook or something, but with him it's always got to be doing something work related or around the house.... relax I tell him. Another nice Christmas has passed, a nice time with my uncle and some of his kids. I got some of these beaded, jeweled ornaments that had been my late aunts. I know some were made in Japan, and others are handmade, likely by her and some friends, while sitting around a kitchen table, creating these gems. I haven't seen any of these in years. And it now seems it's another international holiday, the birthday of our Patron Saint here at the Casa du Borghese, Magdalene Dietrich who was born this date in 1901. The German- American actress, whose beauty, jaw-dropping glamour, voice, aura of sophistication, and languid sensuality made her the world's most glamours film star ever. And I suspect we will never see the likes of it or her again...not even close. Happy Birthday to our beloved Marlene Dietrich.

And just liked that, I woke up to snow this morning.....

GOD LOVE TALLULAH BANKHEAD

Well, as you can see the Mistress has been collected and will start receiving soon. I must admit that on election night yours truly got so swept up in returns, news coverage, a deluge of texts, and phone calls, was harassed by my cousin for my vote choice, and then the outcome, I didn't know what had hit me. Between the election outcome, National Gin Day, and other news on tv, I think it was just so much intake and views and debating I'm over all of it. Right before bed on election night, sometime around 2:45am,who knew Tallulah Bankhead would save me and give me one hearty laugh. My answer to everything from here out will be that of Tallulah Bankhead.

"Thank God for  alcohol. It makes you all more tolerable."

and yes, I'm well aware that is Marlene Dietrich above, but her face sums up my look this week. And that fur is just fabulous!

DRINKING WITH DIETRICH

Marlene Dietrich’s Zabaglione

Never had a Zabaglione? Why they are just delish!!!! Over the holidays I made them once. Zabaglione, is an Italian dessert, or sometimes a beverage, made with egg yolks, sugar, and a sweet wine. The dessert version is a light custard, whipped to incorporate a large amount of air. Since the 1960s, in restaurants in areas of the United States with large Italian populations, zabaione is usually served with strawberries, blueberries, ect.  This recipe was from Marlene Dietrich's books.....

“Mix three yolks of eggs with three tablespoons of sugar until the mixture is creamy and whitish. Then add a bit more than half a cup of Marsala wine. Mix. In a double boiler beat the mixture with an eggbeater till it rises. Do not boil the mixture. Use a large enough pot so that it can rise almost to double the amount. If you are courageous you can forget about the double boiler and do it on a direct low flame.
Serve it in wide-topped glasses while it is warm.”

After trying it I must say, I can see why these were her favorite drink/dessert.

Between them and the egg nogs.....it's a good thing I'll be seeing the Lad for a while and work off those pesky calories.

GLAMOUR MONDAY.......

Is it Monday already??
Well, I survived my 6 hour Black Friday work day, and for the rest of the weekend did a smidge of shopping to support some local shops and then watched old movies THE REST of the weekend. With work and travel for the holiday, I needed some me time. While I love some new movies, they just don't make them like they use too!!! Oh no, I sound like I'm getting older. YIKES!

WEEKEND IS UPON .........

...... the Casa du Borghese, so you just know that puts me in a good mood. Plus the Lad is in town, or my so called " un-official boyfriend" so that puts me into a even better mood. We have plans of staying in Philly Saturday night, where after dinner and the nightlife, I will be up to my seductive wiles.....

and of course, 2 or 20 gin and tonics......

more on my special purchase tomorrow.
