Two weeks ago you may remember I was over in Lambertville, the sister city to New Hope, on the House Tour. I decided to take pictures of a certain house I share every year and has become tradition on the blog here. Both of these towns are quite charming , but when it comes to Halloween, it's hard to beat the enthusiasm these two towns have, when it comes to decorating, and dressing up on Halloween itself. The Dogs Mother would be in her glory I tell ya!
But nobody walks past the 100 block of North Union Street this time of year without pausing, and usually stopping. For some time."The Halloween House," as it has become known, has a display of stylized hand-crafted figures that are dreamy, macabre and compelling enough to halt people in their tracks. People come far and wide just to see it. This year, I had ran into the lady who creates these creatures, and is she ever charming.Dolores Dragan told me she started creating the annual display of blacklight figures in 1998 when she was still teaching art at the Lambertville School. She continues to add a new one each year. Strangely life-like, she says many of the mythical creatures are based on the essence of people she knows. Mrs. Dragan says she decided after teaching her new role would be that of a "memory maker" She also said she thinks of it as donating memories every single year to children who come by here. She also gave me this link to a professionally-produced video. Some of the backstory of how she started this. Amazing.
I wonder what her little dog thinks of all this peeking out the window?
WOW! blows my mind! mrs. dragon is incredible!
ReplyDeleteIt could almost be your family album... Jx
ReplyDeletewas it your family reunion again???
ReplyDeleteThat is one talented woman! And very thoughtful she shares it with the whole neighborhood. There amazing. I watched the video....the town looks packed on Halloween night....brings back fond memories from treat or trick night.
ReplyDeleteNow that is simply amazing!!! I couldn't pick a favorite. It's great she does this. I feel like these days people don't embrace holidays anymore, so it's great to see the excitement she creates. When I was little, Halloween and most holidays seemed magical because people would decorate. I feel like now people don't do anything except Christmas. I'm glad I was a child when I was one. I think that's why I too enjoy your holiday touches. I guess I'm nostalgic.
ReplyDeleteI have never seen anything like it. LOVE.
ReplyDeleteAh-mazing!!! The gnomes are envious! :-) xoxoxoxo
ReplyDeleteI can remember a couple years ago, we went out to New Hope and Lambertville around Halloween. Between the fall foliage and the decorations, it was quite a memorable day. I love when you share these with us...what a sight at night.
ReplyDeleteWhat a amazing and creative talent she is. I love the witches and the horse!!!!
ReplyDeleteThe back story was cool to see. I'd love to see this some year in person. Love that little fat lady.
ReplyDeleteCreative people like this blow the mind. Interesting story in the video. I wonder what she does if it rains?
ReplyDeleteThis is spectacular — classy, creative, and NOT bloody. I love it!
ReplyDeleteJust fabulous. Not some tired, been done to death, decorations there!
ReplyDeleteI’m with the dog, I’d stay safely inside as it’s scary out there!
ReplyDeleteI absolutely love the troll.... He's so cute!
ReplyDeleteHappy Monday, mistress. Thank you for being a good hostess!!
Wow, that's impressive, thanks for sharing the pictures. My sister is one of those nutty Halloween people, she has a room in her basement that looks like a props room from a scary Hollywood movie.
ReplyDeleteShe's quite a talented individual. Certainly not the run-of-the-mill store-bought Halloween displays we're used to seeing. Were I young enough to trick-or-treat, I think I'd skip that place. Spooky!
ReplyDeleteAmazing! They have such personality too.
