Lilies of the Valley are one of my first flowers I love in the spring.....and have you ever taken a whif? They actually smell very good. I picked oodles of them as they were coming fast and furious. Of course I too love the other variety as well......
Lilith of the Valley.
Lilith. My mothers' dog. A Ridgeback. Probably not as demure and delicate as the flower, but very loyal and cute none the less. Here... she is probably upset. Upon my last visit you see, she was outside doing her thing. When she got to the door, where she sits waiting to get in, I said to my mother,"I didn't know she takes her toys out with her". My mother replies, "She doesn't take her toys out." To our horror, she was proud as a peacock at the door, for she had caught and killed a squirrel. It was just hanging there limp in her mouth. Well, out came a treat, as to get her to drop it, upon which we disposed of the critter. She is still puzzled as to where the thing went. Being a breed bred in Africa, and hunt and live on plantations there, she has unbelievable speed, I'm here to tell you. She has in the past also got a rabbit.
Hard to believe this face could go after anything....
"That will teach them to enter my yard"
Meanwhile Buster Bolfig Borghese was having none of it. As he thinks all creatures are his friend and welcomes all. Hell.... mice have walked right pass him and he just stares. He even napped with cats already.
And he is the one who looks more mischievous you ask me!
I don't think I've ever taken a whiff of any lilies of the valley, but I'll definitely put it on my to-do list.
ReplyDeleteLuv the photos of the pooches. Lillith looks so sweet (I'm sure the squirrel had another opinion...).
Thank gawd my cats only bring me mice. I've been "gifted" with four mice this week.
four gifts this week...you must have been a good boy this week. I could have used one of your cats this winter here.
DeleteHA,HA,HA,HA,HA, And here she thought she was bring you guys a gift. They sure are cute.
ReplyDeleteI too would have been horrified! Thank goodness you were at your mothers, and she didn't get your Bouvier!!! I too love Lilies of the Valley so I adored your picture. They do smell unique.
ReplyDeleteI love that she is sitting on the welcome mat! They may now think twice. And the name Lileth cracks me up. They look like they like each other, so cute
ReplyDeleteThey get along great together!
DeleteWow...she caught the damn thing!!!! Give me three treats...I hate squirrels. They sure look cute together.
ReplyDeleteLove your opening picture. Looks old like. But those pups sure are on duty...well at lest Lilleth. I have never heard of a Ridgeback. Are they nice breeds? She is just beautiful as is our Buster!
ReplyDeleteLilith is such a sweet and gentle dog, she would let anyone do anything to her. Train easily, and are good listeners. But when she sees something in the yard on the ground......look out!!!!
DeleteOur dogs and cats never disappoint.
ReplyDeleteOh boy, never a dull moment. I just want to squeeze them both. I too love Lilies of the Valley. If a ever get married, they will be my bouquet.
ReplyDeletepuppies! and I have to keep the lilies of the valley outside unfortunately (allergies).
ReplyDeleteThe PSP. Pups on Squirrel Patrol!
ReplyDeleteI have a friend who has a Ridgeback.....amazing how fast they can run. As on alert and hunting skilled as they can be, they are also the most gentle sweet and loyal dogs. Cute story though, feel sorry for the squirrel.
ReplyDeleteyes, my Bouvier is not happy right now.
DeleteBeautiful lilies......both of them! I would have died to see a squirrel in her mouth. She thought she did something good, lol! Always nice to see Buster.
ReplyDeleteLilies of the Valley....beauties and the beast, lol!
ReplyDeleteShe looks like a Lilleth! I'd have passed out to see a squirrel in her mouth. Give Buster some pets.
ReplyDeleteAbby is proud of Lilleth! I kept one of Abby's deceased squirrels in the garage freezer (I thought if Abby got sick, I would be able to show it to the vet.) Of course I didn't tell anyone and the girls opened that freezer one day.... MOM!!!!
ReplyDeleteThat thought crossed our minds to save it...just in case, but my mother has a deep freezer in her basement, but she wasn't about to put it in there. I can just imagine your girls reactions......
Deletedogs scare me! eeek.
ReplyDeletei know, i know. there is something wrong with me :) But I loved the Lily of the Valley!
Looking at these photos make me smile :) but the poor squirrel.
ReplyDeleteWhat sweet dogs!!!!!!! The squirrel must have had it coming.
ReplyDeletehahahahaha, that was hilarious!!!! Those dogs look like attack dogs! They look like they would lick you to death LOL!
ReplyDeleteThey're both cute, but Buster looks so innocent.
ReplyDeleteI love dogs! What a great pic you took! My dog is afraid of beach and he doesn't go near my cat, let alone squirrels!!! You have two cute ones there.
ReplyDeleteIf only dogs could learn to appreciate the aroma of flowers, Mistress. Aren't they constantly sniffing each other's bottoms?
ReplyDeleteAw, the evil beauty of Lilith! Buster is adorable.
ReplyDeleteHappy happy dogs!
ReplyDeleteAs for valley lillies, we have them growing by our front door
Beautiful dogs and beautiful lily of the valley.
ReplyDeleteBoth with a scent of death about them, though - poor squirrel, but ce la vie, or should I say ce la mort! Don't eat the lilies as they are highly poisonous!
Happy Doggy Day!
ReplyDeleteBuster n Lillieth are a beautiful pair!
ReplyDeleteLOL. Now, Buster would be the one for me...open and kind to all!
ReplyDeleteHugs!!
