Jinkx Monsoon has come a long way. Since winning the fifth season of RuPaul’s Drag Race, drag superstar Jinkx Monsoon has been living his dream by combining his passions for Broadway and drag through “The Vaudevillians,” a musical duo alongside Major Scales.Having taken the show on a global tour, Monsoon — the drag persona of Jerick Hoffer — is now announcing his next big move: transforming his groundbreaking web series “Drag Becomes Him” into a feature-length documentary, which will air on Logo tonight at 8/7c.
Drag Becomes Him provides an intimate glimpse inside the life of this acclaimed drag performer. This raw and affectionate film follows the passionate pursuits that transformed a working class boy in a struggling family to an illustrious performer on a global stage. Influenced by a grandmother with charm school polish, Jerick learned to fuse the sophistication of a southern belle with the crass behavior of a working girl. Jinkx Monsoon was born and has what RuPaul describes as “a stage left, off center kind of quality.” Drag Becomes Him follows Jinkx’s trajectory from a small stage in Portland, Oregon through a growing career in Seattle to the relinquishing of the crown one year after winning RuPaul’s Drag Race. Expanded from the acclaimed five-part web series of the same name, which is worth a look I tell you.... this cherished portrayal of Jinkx Monsoon peels back the layers on one of the brightest stars in years on the drag circuit.
Jerick Hoffer (a.k.a., Jinkx Monsoon) is a seasoned Portland-born entertainer and graduate of Cornish College of the Arts in Seattle. As early as 2006, he appeared as the lead dancer in the world’s largest drag queen chorus line, which made the Guinness Book of World Records. His first full-length studio album, ‘The Inevitable Album” which is an entertaining listen, is available on iTunes. Jerick also created “The Vaudevillians” with Cornish classmate Richard Andriessen and the two have performed as duo “Kitty Witless” and “Dr. Dan Von Dandy” in the surreal, genre bending show to sold out masses around the world including New York City, Provincetown, Europe, Australia and several ships at sea.
And after seeing my favorite performance of Jinkx...easy to see why she is quite something. That voice.
The ginger hair makes it
ReplyDeleteThere's a touch of Liza-like quality in her performance, and I wonder what she'd sound like with good equipment and proper mixing. I bet she'd be stellar.
ReplyDeleteHugs!!
