I don't know about you, but I sure can't wait much longer for what is probably my favorite dinner of the whole year!!!! And I'm even more thankful for a three day week! I'll be off two days this week, and I'll head to the ancestral home for the big dinner. I was thinking, we always see turkeys this time of year, but what about the other beautiful bird of autumn....the pheasant! They really are quite stunning, I have seen several around here. But did you know, the males like always are the most stunning? They also have very keen eye sight and hearing, and can fly up to 35 mph? They can also run over 10 mph, so they apparently have very strong legs. I have never eaten pheasant. The less animals I can eat the better, so I'll stick to me once a year turkey and my chicken, ha, ha!!!
I always look forward to Thanksgiving, but I always have to warn my family to cut down on my portion sizes!
ReplyDeleteI agree, pheasants are quite stunning. Ever notice how the most beautiful birds are the noisiest?
ReplyDeleteYour right! I love peacocks also, and are they noisy!
DeleteHa ha, turkey shoveling spoon!
ReplyDeleteI'll have one too!
DeleteBeautiful!!!! Your Monday posts are becoming my favorite. And I adore your thanksgiving header! It says alot. Turkeys are beautiful but I feel bad about eating them. But there so tasty
ReplyDeleteI do love a beautiful cock. Jx
ReplyDeletethat's what ALL the boys say!
DeleteThat makes three of us!
DeleteI have a two-and-a-half-day work week and I'm thankful for that!
ReplyDeleteA two day week would be even better.
Deletei do like traditional turkeys. have always wished the President would pardon a traditional turkey instead of the white ones.
ReplyDeleteI am eating seafood on thursday (I don't like turkey), and having mince pie for dessert!
ReplyDeleteI LOVE me some mince pie.
Deletei ate pheasant only once. there won't be a second time.
ReplyDeleteIt's supposed to be well-hung. Apparently. Jx
DeleteWhat happened? Did you choke on the bone?
DeleteNow that was quite a lesson in bird Jon.
DeleteLovely photos. Even though the pheasant is too beautiful to slaughter, I've eaten it a few times. Pheasant tastes like a curiously upgraded chicken, but with a gamey, wild taste (kinda like some of the guys I've known....).
ReplyDeleteFarm-raised pheasants taste different (better) than wild ones.
Like guys you've known? I just bet your a good hunter!
DeleteLast year, we decided to go the traditional first Thanksgiving - and we switched to lobster. It also saves all that damn cooking (for days!), and saves the waistline a bit.
ReplyDeleteI never realised pheasants were so attractive. The males are probably like drag queens. I'm glad your veering towards the vegetarian path, Mistress. We gorillas eat no creatures but insects, which are philosophical about being eaten.
ReplyDeleteI too think thanksgiving dinner.ill have thirds, then be in the gym twice a day for a week!
ReplyDeleteAnd one more Julia Child with turkey photo.
