A pre post of sorts till I arrive home, but had to take a moment to honor two great Dames as they both turn 80. Dame Maggie Smith, today, and Dame Judi Dench, who turned 80 on December 9th. Judi Dench and Maggie Smith first shared a dressing room almost 60 years ago and their friendship has spanned the decades ever since ...
Dame Margaret Natalie "Maggie" Smith
born December 28th 1934
born December 28th 1934
"I believe that I am past my prime. I had reckoned on my prime lasting till I was at least fifty."
"I tend to head for what's amusing because a lot of things aren't happy. But usually you can find a funny side to practically anything"
"Speak your mind, even if your voice shakes."
Dame Judith Olivia "Judi" Dench
born December 9 1934
born December 9 1934
"I think you should take your job seriously, but not yourself - that is the best combination."
"Actually, what I miss are people corpsing on stage."
"There are very few things that surprise me"
"Sometimes nudity is gratuitous. We just live in a society where everything goes."
"The more I do, the more frightened I get. But that is essential. Otherwise why would I go on doing it?"
80 and still fabulous, I'd say!!!
You picked a great pair of ladies. I loved them together in Lavender Girls, and in all of the other movies I've seen them in.
ReplyDeleteToe ladies to be adored and treasured. My favorites? A Room with a View and The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel.which they both starred.
ReplyDeleteKind of grew up with them :-)
ReplyDeleteSnap! ...and snap, again! Jx
ReplyDeleteA couple of great broads, too!
ReplyDeleteAlmost every movie their in, it's is a delightful time.
ReplyDeleteand they both STILL outdazzle their wannabe botoxed counter parts...who barely cut it as actresses.
ReplyDeleteAnd neither one of them disappoints, do they?
ReplyDeleteI love these two actresses. Such talent and class. They would both be on my " If you could invite 10 people to dinner list"
ReplyDeleteI wanna be/look like them when I get to 80 (only 20 years hence)!
ReplyDeleteTwo very awesome and wonderful ladies. :)
ReplyDeleteMaggie and Judi have always been favorites of mine. I remember in English class watching Dench play Lady Macbeth. Mesmerizing! My children now watching the reruns of As Time Goes By with me.
ReplyDeleteWell, I must say they don't come much better than this. I also like Helen Mirren. Happy Birthdays girls!!!!!
ReplyDeleteI can't help it, but I love Smith in the Harry Potter series and Tea with Mussolini. They were both good in that.
ReplyDeleteTwo of my absolute favorites! Brava for the Dames!
