Good evening dear readers, it's the Mistress here. Now regular readers of the blog will know that I have loverd and adored Aunt Barbara, Long Island’s Tupperware queen, who was selling hundreds of thousands of dollars’ worth of kitchenware and earning herself a six-figure salary, along with over 10 years of hilarious videos on You Tube , which I featured some right here.... some of you even got her birthday message from me here. For over a decade in New York, she hosted parties and ran her business as Aunt Barbara, a drag queen whose brash attitude, libation soaked personality, snappy accent, and sassy comebacks were part of her act. Aunt Barbara's creator, Bobbi was living as a man at the time, and portraying Aunt Barbara allowed her to dress up in 1960s-era dresses and a black bob wig to host her Tupperware parties, to the delight of her clients.
Women and gay men no matter who they are, seem to love Aunt Barbara — even the more conservative, Trump-supporting women among the crowd. But she didn’t want to just act like her female character; she said that from a very young age, she knew she was a woman. Bobbi held it inside through his teenage years into his 20s, and finally, at one point when he thought his parents could not figure him out, his mother sat down with him, and she said, ‘We know that you’re gay. We know that you’re homosexual," But what Bobbi thought was that is half the story. It’s half the story because he was attracted to men and he was biologically and physically a male, but intuitively, mentally, organically, Bobbi was a female. When Bobbi came out as a trans woman on April 1, 2016, she said, she was surprised by how some of her clients suddenly treated her. Bobbi, now Jennifer considered Aunt Barbara just a character of who she is. Jennifer says she guessed she thought that they accepted Aunt Barbara, why wouldn’t they accept her? After all she was just the person who’s behind Aunt Barbara. But after her transition, people began canceling their Tupperware parties, she said, and her business suffered big time. Just goes to show how far we have to go with our Trans folks yet. I say congrats to her and wish her well on her endeavors.
