MAKE YOUR OWN KIND OF MUSIC

When I was listening to a cd I had this week of Cass Elliot, I had my mind made up to put her in todays Three Words post, and seems I'm not the only one who adored her. Even though she was before my time, and then a very small queenling...her music always can put me in a cheery, happy and upbeat positive mood. One of my favorite songs from her has always been Make You Own Kind of Music. It has such a positive message to me. No matter what your going through or how different one thinks they might be,  do not ever conform I say and blend in. Make you own kind of music I say, sing your own kind of song. When I good friend came out of the closet and was also very bold with style and fashion, he considered conforming. I told him to listen to this song. He got the message.
Last March another of my favorite singers, did a incredible cover of Cass's song, what a beautiful ode to the singer. Paloma Faith, is an English singer, songwriter, and actress. Faith is known for her retro and eccentric style and is an incredible artist who’s always been driven by something different. The life story of Paloma Faith inspired the video for her amazing version of ‘Make Your Own Kind of Music’.
Two talented singers with such a great message.

  3. Paloma not only has a bloody amazing voice, she hasn't released one bad single, the quirkiness she exudes is genuine, she is one of a rare breed. Great song and message. Your right about the song.

  6. I never thought of it but this would indeed be a excellent gay themed song to live by. Definitely think Mamma Cass would approve of the version..

  7. Never heard either song. All it took for me to fall in love with both versions was the 30 seconds. Just wow!

  10. I love this song! Being that I reside in a musical time warp, I have never heard of Paloma Faith. I love her voice. She has a little extra something there. Thank you for sharing Maddie. This is a nice little pick me up.

  11. Wow! I've never heard the remake. Excellent. I LOVED Cass Elliot. And I loved how she always used to do the Pony! And what a voice!!! The Mamas and the Papas rose to fame during my "formative years."

  12. A great song, no matter who sings it!

  13. It is a marvellous song - understandably, since it came from the criminally overlooked songwriting team of Barry Mann and Cynthia Weil, who also gave us You've Lost That Lovin' Feeling, We Gotta Get out of This Place and I Just Can't Help Believing. I have always loved Cass - both as one of the Mamas & Papas and solo - but it was when this song and much of her/their back catalogue was used so brilliantly as the backdrop for the gay coming-out film Beautiful Thing, I really fell in love with her voice all over again.
