BIRTHDAY DAME

Here's to one of my favorite Brit actresses!!!!!

"When I approach the pearly gates, I'd like to hear a champagne cork popping, an orchestra tuning up, and the sound of my mother laughing."

"[about her damehood] I'm very surprised indeed, but very pleased that the honor pertains to theatre."

"I just want to do good work with good people in good places. And as for retirement, I can hardly spell the word. I'm driven, really. The demons won't lie down."

"People have always pitied spinsters. We have been derided, as if we had missed out on life. Well, we need not miss out on anything today!"

"We were betrayed by the BBC. We finished series four of Hetty Wainthropp, we were told there was going to be series five. But no word ever came - how rude! The BBC is run by 10-year-old children."

Happy Birthday and many happy returns!

  5. I'm going out tonight to celebrate with sister Violet -- the one with the large house, Mercedes, sauna, jacuzzi, swimming pool and room for a pony. Or maybe I should host one of my candlelight suppers.

You have great taste in comedy. Google Kitty on Victoria Wood.

    1. Ohjhhhhhh, I'm very familiar with Kitty! Some say she was the early frame work for Hyacinth. She was very entertaining.

    2. I love Kitty! The one where she gets through a bottle of sherry in 3 and a half minutes is hilarious (as are they all).

  10. I also love Hyacinth B-U-C-K-E-T ....but I adored her in Hetty Wainthropp. Many more indeed.

  11. Did you ever see the episode where she finally says BUCKET! I have the whole bouquet on DVD, it is in an extra long special that seldom shows on American TV. I also love Penelope Keith in To the Manner Born. Good solid role models.

    1. I have seen that show only because I have the whole series on DVD. I have yet to see To the Manner Born. They many many old English comedies here, but that's not one of them

    2. To the Manor Born is probably overdue a pointless American remake, starring Kirsten Dunst or someone equally dreadful. Jx

    3. Jon, your right! American tv kills every Brit remake. I know there was talk for a while of Are You Being Served, but I think they decided not to. They realized it would never do justice. But Doc Martin which I adore, is in production now I believe. Won't watch. How do you replace Martin Clunes?
