I fall in love with most places I go, just like my men. Very easily. I always think to myself when I go to a locale, this is the most spectacular place I have been. And yet the next place always seems to be my next favorite place. While all the trips I have taken have been memorable, Buenos Aries will be very hard to top. Having never been to South America before, Buenos Aries was always on my bucket list, mostly because Eva Peron was always a figure of fascination for me. This trip did not disappoint. It was relatively inexpensive with exception to airfare, stunning old and new architecture, quaint bars, culture to the gills, excellent food and wine, even a day trip to Uruguay was a blast. More on that later. The people were beyond friendly and very personable, and then the mens!!!!!! OY!!!!!!!
Buenos Aires is the city of the tango, the widest avenue in the world, Maradona, Evita Perón and one of the cities I would love to live in. It was big and hectic, but great and relaxing at the same time, as I'm am a very chill person. So great that 13 days was too short and hopefully I'll return to this great city. Between MM#1 FAN and myself we probably had close to 2,000 pictures and that's edited! So posting will be difficult to select pictures, so I will probably use most from my Instagram.
Hotel-
At our hotel, Mine Boutique Hotel, we were welcomed warmly and looked after by the brilliant Claudio and all the other great staff working there. Our room was very comfortable, cool décor, and each morning the breakfasts were top notch, with the ladies working there making lovely dishes and attending to any requests. We had a lovely time at our hotel and would have no hesitation recommending it for a stay in the fantastic Palermo area of BA.The hotel was small and cozy, the location is terrific. Our room was clean and bright. If you want a small, intimate place to stay, I'd recommend it. Lots of restaurants and cafes in the neighborhood.
The heated pool was a great feature to dip our fannies!
Casa Rosada-
At the edge of Plaza de Mayo sits the seat of the Argentine government. In a distinct shade of pink too. Simply being in Argentina seems to warrant singing the Madonna-eternalized song, in which I was almost escorted out for my lovely, but daring impression of Eva...they did give me points for likeness, though, but I was more inspired to sing because, one weekend, we were lucky enough to see the inside of Casa Rosada, the “Pink House.” Whereas the U.S. President has The White House, the Argentinian President has The Pink House.
Officially called Casa de Gobierno, the rosy-hued residence is a national monument often associated with the country’s beloved Eva Perón and her famous balcony speech.
Although Evita’s physical presence in this mansion ended over half a century ago, there remain constant reminders of her residence here. For instance, take the Salón Eva Perón
plaque, or, better yet, the large portrait of the First Lady and her husband, President Juan Perón.
Every hour you can see changing of the guards in front of the palace. On weekends only there’s a possibility to see Casa Rosada from the inside. We were lucky that we were in Buenos Aires for two weekends, so we took a tour on Sunday. There is a line to get in Casa Rosada so make sure you get up early. I was ready to move in I tell ya, and with such nice looking guards too. And just a tad more friendly than those of Buckingham Palace. They were all over the Casa Rosada. This one tried to get fresh with me, I believe.
San Telmo Market
After the tour at Casa Rosada we went straight to the San Telmo Sunday Market. It’s just a few blocks away so it perfect to combine. You can find all kinds of antiques, souvenirs, food, artist, street music and of course tourists at the market. Strolling around the market on a Sunday is a great way to spend the day! And I noticed a lot of vendors there had oodles of these seltzers bottles. I could use a few of these.
Needless to say this shop took me awhile to get through.
Mind ya, I'm now feeling separation anxiety!!!
