POSTCARDS

What with the weather changing back to the cooler temperatures again, it had me reflecting on last late summers trip to Barbados and Martinque. A few more snaps from the trip. It's great how pictures can bring the memories back so quick like it was yesterday. Now we are in the midst of finalizing the next location.... but in the meantime,..

St Nicholas Abbey is located in Saint Peter, Barbados and today is a plantation house, museum and rum distillery...very good rum too I might add. Colonel Benjamin Berringer built the house in 1658, and this house is one of only three genuine Jacobean mansions left in the Western Hemisphere. St Nicholas Abbey has no church connection and has always been a sugarcane and rum plantation house. Love the style of the place .

The St Louis Cathedral is a Catholic cathedral in Martinique. It was built in the late 19th century in the Romanesque Revival style and serves as the cathedral of the Roman catholic Archdiocese of Fort -de-France. The construction of the original cathedral began in the mid-17th century, and it opened in 1657. Due to several fires, and earthquakes and or natural disasters, that have hit Fort-de-France over the years, the current structure dates only to 1895.

Ain't traveling grand?

  5. Gorgeous building, and a gorgeous church; I love a good church for the architecture not for the things that go on inside!

  6. Beautiful architecture. The images relaxed me a bit and I needed it! No big travel plans at all. (The cats.) But we do at least have a wedding in Segovia in September. Great friends (Cristina and Alfonso-of-the-dancing-pecs) and a place we’ve never visited.

    1. It's a good thing I don't tell some of the stories of some of the things that happen on vacation...you then may need to take a shower!

  10. Husband and I are doing a road trip this Fall, down the East Coast. Time to check in with family along the way, a wedding down in Tampa Bay, revisit some old stomping grounds.

We appreciate the drives. It's been years since our last road trip.

    1. That sounds nice! I would love to tour the country by driving cross country, ala Too Wong Foo, but I so don't travel in a car very well much after 4 hours. I get very antsy.

    1. You're absolutely going to love Vienna. That was probably one of my favorite trips of all time. We spent about two and a half weeks there. Of course getting there by way of Orient Express made the trip all the more memorable.

  17. What lovely pictures! Thank you for sharing! That sounds like it was a wonderful trip and makes me want to visit there too, ack but isn't the travel list forever long? I fall in love with just about every place we've ever gone and then it makes it hard not to want to keep going back. A good problem to have.

Since you asked, Yes! We're going to Japan in two weeks! It's why I've been quiet. I just want to get there and back with little to no drama if possible. It's been 20 years since I've been to see my friends and I miss them SO MUCH! I don't want anything to jeopardize it. It will be my son's first international trips and the 2nd time (same place) for the spouse as well. Please universe, just let me have an emotional reunion with Keiko one last time!

    1. That sounds like it will be an amazing trip!!!!! And I hear you. I too love every place I have been and would like to go back to some of the location again, but I don't want to limit myself from going to the same place over and over...but what to see and get a taste for many locations. I plan to re-vist some places though...one day. I hope you enjoy the trip! I'm sure you have much to get ready for dear. I hope once back you'll share your trip.
