I was a huge fan of the band Pavement, a indie rock band that was formed back in 1989. I really enjoy when groups stay small and avoid press and big labels. Pavement recorded five albums, and yet has had a decades long career with a huge underground following, which this year still finds them touring. To this day they are a successful indie rock band and are still remained signed with independent labels, which I feel preserves the bands feel and talent, and lets them be themselves. They have often been described as one of the most influential bands to emerge from the underground in the 90's, and one of the best bands of the 1990's and still hold on to their cult following. I was delighted to catch them last night on Austin City Limits. They might be older, but still got it.
I remember them and this song, although I had forgotten the group's name.
ReplyDeleteNever heard of them. The 90s was my country western decade.
ReplyDeleteWHAT!!!!! I do not picture you being a country western listener.
DeleteI'm like you, like a band or artists who stick to their guns and don't sell out.
ReplyDeleteSounds like they have their priorities right -- music first.
ReplyDeleteNew to me
ReplyDeleteFirst I've heard of them
ReplyDeleteI don't remember the 90s, let alone the music. I can't even blame it on drugs. I blame it on teen-age sons and moving from San Diego to Livermore. That move killed several brain cells! This doesn't sound like something I would've been listening to anyway.
ReplyDeleteYou don't remember the '90s? This must have been back when the jahobbies we're up flying high with the birds! Hell I don't remember some of the 90s toots.... and it wasn't because the kids.
DeleteI remember hearing about them back in the 90s, but nothing since then.
ReplyDeleteWow, this takes me way back... ☺️
ReplyDeleteI’ve never seen a band that looked like they were having so much playing live while simultaneously seeming to hate the experience the entire time 😂 but love Pavement!!!
ReplyDeleteThe absolute essence of 90s rock!
ReplyDeleteI sort of remember them. But I do recognize the music.
ReplyDeleteAgain...with the google stuff. It's me JM
DeleteMy immediate reaction to seeing the photo is this is The Firesign Theatre.
ReplyDeleteTrying to watch the Grammys, then realized I hardly knew some of the current musicians, so I feel doubly old and out of it with this group you've mentioned, sugar! xoxo
ReplyDeleteI remember this group drifting through my musical landscape. My brother in law was a big fan. If I recall, they were signed to Madonna's label for a time. And had a hit with something about Cut My Hair - which the brother in law put on the juke box on New Year's Eve before we rang in 2023. Fascinating how life swirls about us. Kizzes.
ReplyDeleteso strange name!
