ALL HAIL ANN MILLER
Ahhhhhhhhh, Ann Miller can always make everything better. With exception to the legend Cyd Chaise, Ann Miller may have been one Hollywood's best dancers in my opinion. And she was just deemed a Patron Saint here at the Cas du Borghese.
Sweetie, I see the troll that made home on my blog for awhile found its way to yours. You may want to read my post titled What Evil Lurks In The Heart Of Mildred. It's about the pesky troll and what I did about him or it or her or whatever gender the troll is.
I envy anyone who can trip the light fandango. That was never my forte. Alas, I have two left feet. Sigh!
I definitely agree that Ann Miller was one of the best dancers around. I met her when I lived in Hollywood. She was gracious and charming - a genuine down-to-earth lady.
One of the greatest dancers of all time. One time when I was visiting my sister in New York in the late 1970s, I walked by Tiffanys and she came out of the door. All I could do was stand there and stare, stunned that I was actually seeing her in person. She could have been in her early 70s but she looked great and those legs were fabulous. All I could do was whisper, "Ann Miller. Wow." I've never forgotten that day.
I too am a huge Ann Miller fan. Just think how many of the new generation doesn't even know who she is. When a movie comes on with her on one of the old movie channels....Im glued !With legs like the magnificent Ms. Miller had, it didn't really matter what the plot was, she stole the show!
The lady always takes my breath away.....I simply can't watch contemporary movies after seeing performances like this. A woman, a real woman, an alluring woman, never has to be vulgar to be sexy!
What a joyous number!! Fabulous arranging of vocal and instr parts. This tune lifts my spirits every time I hear it. The fabulous Ann Miller is on top form with her lovely legs and trademark spins. This really was a golden era!! HALLELUJAH for them all.
Listen here stretch...I have heard that before. It's was probably she was always bubbly and vixen-ish in her roles. That and her hair never moved, ever notice that?
I like bubbly and vixenish (that's why I love you, Mistress Maddie and Deedles, so much). Yeah, the hair, the cheesy frozen smile, and dare I say it... those splayed legs! GASP!!! Forgive me, Mistress, forgive me.
She was beautiful and could tap dance like nobody's business, but I prefer a more rounded dancer like Cyd Charisse. I think it's the tapping that got on my nerves. I do like Eleanor Powell a little better, but, it's still tap dancing.
I like all three too. The difference between Ann and Cyd, was Cyd was classically trained and danced, where Ann learned her moves from vaudeville and burlesque, and danced. But by god was Cyd Charisse gorgeous! She's a favorite of mine too.
legs for days, as todd's late BFF would say.
ReplyDeleteJust so you know, we danced like that across the flight deck back when I was in the Navy. Oh... the joy!
ReplyDeleteya mean...it wasn't like the village people? or cher? I'm shocked, I tell you, shocked!
DeleteVery swishy for the Navy were you?
DeleteOkay... I want to see a picture of Dave in his uniform... yes???
DeleteI heard that they actually used the 7th fleet in those dancing scenes. I agree with Steven, pictures Dave!
DeleteWhat was that about getting 7 fleets?
DeleteThanks a lot, Maddie! Now I'm thinking enemas! This is not usual for me, damn it!

ReplyDeleteI've climbed up on top of my share of sissy sailors, but none as gay as these boys. Hallelujah.
ReplyDeleteShould I sign you up for this year's Fleet Week?
DeleteI’m so sorry to be unfaithful, but, although I don’t know exactly why, Anne Miller has always gotten on my nerves.
ReplyDeleteI love you, Mitchell!

ReplyDeleteI love Ann Miller and all the gayity here today! We should have a Ann Miller week!
ReplyDeleteDon't tempt me!!!!!!
DeleteShe and Cherise were both very good. "We do every step the men do - only backwards. In heels." :-) Happy Tuesday.
ReplyDeleteThat's a great quote!
DeleteWow! Lots of talent :-) xoxoxo

DeleteWould you believe me if I told you I saw Ann Miller in a play in Los Angeles in the mid 80s? True story. She was a great dancer even in her early 60s.
ReplyDeleteYes, I believe it. I saw her in Mame on Broadway at about that time. She was still wonderful.
