LOOKING GLASS...SAKS

It goes without question that no one can do Christmas quite like New York City, although, Philadelphia is pretty neck and neck with it. The picturesque windows for Manhattan's flagship department stores will have you stopping in your footsteps—even the most hardened of New Yorkers must pause to gawk, then grumble on about tourists. Window shopping is an amazing experience just after Thanksgiving when Manhattan's biggest department stores reveal their holiday window displays, some having taken months, and in some cases all year to create. In some companies, they have just a visual team for windows alone. Checking out some holiday windows is a must-do during your holiday season visit to New York City. The windows displays are almost always on view shortly before Thanksgiving and remain up until just after the New Year, so they can be experienced by visitors throughout the holiday season.  As is tradition here, I will start sprinkling in the holiday window since they seem to be a holiday favorite with y'all. The first and only one thus far I saw is Saks, and last week's Tiffany & Co on my last trip last week. Ill be in New York City this weekend...so look out next week.
Fans of Mickey Mouse will love Saks Fifth Avenue’s holiday window display. In celebration of the 80th anniversary of Disney's Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, the department store partnered with the media brand to transform all fourteen of its Fifth Avenue-facing windows into scenes from the beloved fairytale.  If you go, you'll see incredibly detailed vignettes of Snow White frolicking among adorable woodland creatures, the seven dwarfs singing their famous song in a crystal cave and the Wicked Queen being, y'know, evil! I thought they were very well done.

  2. I'd fly to NYC just to see the Saks windows! I worked at the McGraw Hill building (in 1976/77) and would go daily during Christmas just to see the windows... OK and weekly all year to shop.

  9. Saks windows are always so theatrical, every installation is a glittering, elaborate performance behind the glass. And as a child I lived Snow White.
