It was another busy week for me, a TWO day work week...oh pity me won't you? After my weekend with friends, I spent the first half of the week with Daddy Warbucks, who is ever famous for such short notice when coming to town. He had rented a cottage at Phillips Mill, just outside New Hope. It was very restful and tranquil, and we spent most nights dinning in New Hope. But I would swear we were in England...or were we???? What do you think?
Situated on one of Bucks County's most fabled properties in the historic hamlet of Phillips' Mill, sits this private Medieval English village. Renowned architect, painter, wood worker, and iron worker, Morgan Colt built this extraordinary village at the turn of the 20th century to be his residence. As you walk through the village, you'll feel as though you've stepped back in time and you're now in England 900 years ago. Most of the cottages have a Living Room, Bedroom with skylight, with all fresh bed linens, full Kitchen with Spanish tile, and full bathroom.
If you don't feel like cooking dinner, just walk out your door, down the cast-stone walkway, through the beautiful garden courtyards and through the large Medieval iron gates, where you will come upon The Inn at Phillip's Mill pictured at top of the post, also built by Morgan Colt and arguably the most romantic restaurant I've ever been in..... in all of Bucks County'!
This was the little cottage we were in, complete with back courtyard with a little grill.
How amazing is this place??????
Step down into the sunken Italian garden and enjoy a glass of wine while you watch the sun set. Four large ornate stone pedestals were imported from a palace in Italy by Morgan Colt in the early 1900's and barged up the canal to Colt's residence where they have been standing at each corner of the sunken garden for the last 100 years.
The lovely canal that is situated in from the Delaware River. One can't take a walk in New Hope without seeing some fun water fowl......

ReplyDeleteIf a 12th century English peasant could be taken on a tour of that village he would think he had entered heaven! I reckon it's more like the mythical shire of Middle Earth where Bilbo Baggins lived. So is Daddy Warbucks your suitor?
