GRANDE DAME

Sigh.......it's never easy to be the first gone from Drag Race, but too me Tempest is a true camp queen, who for some reason reminded me of Joanne Worley with her retro looks and big hair. I give her credit for even getting on the show. She is my kind of queen, as I generally prefer the campy over the fishy. Tempest DuJour is (quite literally) a larger than life drag superstar! An enormously popular entertainer in the West, Tempest can be found hosting her wildy popular Retro Game Show Night, headlining Honeybaked Glam, and hosting a wide variety of events nationally. Tempest resides in Tucson, Arizona where she is a professional costume designer and Professor at the University of Arizona's School of Theatre, Film, and Television, in amongst her fundraising efforts for AIDS charities. And I love that she creates everything she wears...from head to toe. But don't feel to sorry for her being gone already, this delicate flower of the desert shares Maison DuJour happily with her husband, two beautiful children, and a whole lot of poultry!!!!!!! Chicken anyone?

  1. I was sorry to see her go too.Tempest is clearly a comedy queen. I am sure she can not sing a lick and ahalf but she worked it. Having performed with her, she does have a tight lip sync, and some of the best duds.... she sold it the best she could. I will have to tell her to check this out!

  2. I wish we could have seen more of Tempest! I believe her dance was dignified and perfect realism for the character she portrayed. And, as an avid Drag Race fan and queen, I feel cheated that we were not able to see more of Tempest, a woman of substance and maturity, and instead are left to view, yet another season of most fishy queens instead! I honestly believe that Drag Race owes it to the Queens of yesteryear to show some old school with the new school! Eliminating Tempest due to the "bagginess" in the nude challenge seems dauntingly unfair!!! Her lipsync was spot on and her dynamic would really have added to the show. Beautiful spread

  3. I'm with you, babycakes. Love my queens campy, tarty, creative, and original with a big side of show biz. Love the Tempest. History has shown that Drag Race simply loves girls to be girls, shying away and shooing away anyone who pays the tiniest bit of tribute to drag's magnificent history. New drag bores me. I don't want to simply watch a boy be a girl... I want to be entertained and that's what footlight sweeties like Tempest can manage with a mere bat of an oversized eyelash. Thanks for posting this. - uptonking from Wonderland Burlesque

  6. I like Tempest. I think she looked marvelous. She would been fun to watch. So many of the others are pretty but NO PERSONALITY.

  7. The post along in picture makes me laugh!!!! Love her ! While I still enjoy the show, feel it has slipped. To many queens on there now look more transsexual than anything. Where the hell is the old ole drag? I really love that first picture.

  8. I love her.So much style! She's a lot more like the UK queens I'm used to seeing, and that's a kind of drag I think people forget actually exists

  10. Tempest is what a original drag queen looks like. Just fabulous with a Laugh In quality. If one wanted to see biological women on a catwalk, I'd watch Fashion tv.

  11. i too would have liked her to remain, but considering she does costuming for a living, her outfits were wanting. she's probably exhausted after having lost those 400 pounds. i would be too.
