FOURTH HOPES

The Mistress and company are still beach bound and I'm sure having a much sin filled time as this scheduled post goes to publish. As America enters the patriotism week of the Fourth of July and it's arrival, with an unpopular president behaving in a myriad of un-American ways, it's worth wondering what patriotism will look like in this moment. Is saluting the flag, displaying the flag and dutifully respecting the office of the presidency looking past the actions of the great buffoon and his party and administration to celebrate our imperfect and dangerous nation? We can love this country and still loathe the people and the supporters in charge. We can be simultaneously proud of this country and highly embarrassed and depressed of the things being done in its name. Had I been home, there would be no flag displayed. And while I'm sure we are having a good time at the beach, this Fourth of July, my patriotism looks like two middle fingers.

Wherever and however, I hope you're having a day for the Fourth of July that way you want it! We will be back in about another week.

It's been so long since I had enjoyed a three day weekend because of the pandemic and not working, I'd almost forgotten what it felt like, but it's been so hectic with work and free lance projects, it's welcomed. Last week before heading home I did a window display for an antique dealers shop window...couldn't resist using the Boston Terrier door stops...and then took a peruse around his shop. Many modern Independence Day traditions stem from Americas early independence celebrations. It use to be quite common for the Declaration of Independence to be read aloud, followed by muskets and cannons being fired. It's safe to say the earliest of Americans celebrated the 4th of July loudly and proudly.

We are gathering with family, and the Lad at the Mothers for our 4th of July. While gin and Pimms poured yesterday, today will be a nice cook out on the grill, and getting buzzed on more Pimms Cups all around. No fireworks this year, although we may see them from the house anyhow.... but we plan to have a fire in the firepit.... and may light some sparklers if the mood strikes.

FLAGS AND GIN

Greetings from the ancestral home,  for a week to visit mom,  and aunt and uncle,  where we will have a small picnic today, and finally have a celebratory anniversary for them. I will make my famous Deviled Eggs . A different Fourth this year for sure, and no huge crowds for me. But rest assure....I have my gin and a good cigar!!! Some Nicky Doll helps too.

And remember,  as Abe Lincoln said  "America will never be destroyed from the outside. If we falter and lose our freedoms, it will be because we destroyed ourselves."  All the more reason to vote. Also we can be patriotic for our country, she deserves it, but our GOVERNMENT must earn it!

My lovely fourth flags are full salute!

Daddy Warbucks got in town and we will be heading to a fourth of July picnic with friends here in New Hope, then swing by the Raven Resort to catch some of the Splash Pool Show. Warbucks asked if I had gotten any fireworks to commemorate the holiday...I'm like...

What are all my lambchops up to today? However you celebrate I hope your getting out to enjoy the weather, some nice cold Pimm's libations, with delish food, or just plain old relaxing. But before that that how about shaking dat ass to one of my favorite club ditties!!!!

And it you are fire off fireworks, I hope your shooting them off in the traditional manner.
