You have no idea how much I was looking forward to getting away on vacation. Especially what with the goings on of the current administration and the other half still licking wounds. Traveling and getting away may be the only way to balance oneself again. If I was home and never traveled, I think I'd go nuts. I know, a short trip for me, right? But I digress. The beach for me is always my favorite place to go to feel free, relax, and get rejuvenated. Nothing like hearing the sea, smelling it, and feeling the sand under foot. Getting Thrasher French Fries with salt and vinegar, and enjoying some famous Dollies Saltwater Taffy. So, Rehoboth Beach was a very good respite after the hoopla of the gay pride festivities in NYC. Rehoboth is also making a rebound I feel...the pendulum seems to be swinging back to being more gay again. While not as gay as say Ptown or Fire Island, it is pretty gay and very gay friendly. The restaurants are incredible, there are no less than five different weekly drag shows, with guest queens from all over, and not drag race queens, but legends, like Coco, Bunny, Sherry Vine, Miss Richfield and the one who inspired me to start drag, Champagne Douglas. There is also 5 gay bars and dance clubs. Imagine? I danced my ass off for three hours at Deigo's Hideaway our first Saturday night. And the shopping?!?! Such stylish boutiques and shops, with clothing with some flair. If you ever get the chance, check this gem of a beach out. And I highly recommend staying at the Rehoboth Guest House, run by a gay couple I know from the Woods Campground, Frank and Garrett. The rooms are unique, attention to every detail, a full-on, full-service breakfast every morning, with everything under the sun you could ask for, wonderful, friendly and attentive staff, freshly made Chocolate chip cookies all day, and a fully stock 24-hour coffee and tea bar, beautiful courtyard and grounds. Don't want to head to the beach? They have chaise lounges up on the second level for sunning. Excellent location right within blocks of all the action, and the gay beach, Poodle Beach.

BEACH DAZED
I already have my next two stays booked their already for autumn and next summer. And take a gander at what I'm taking about with my favorite place.
Apparently in Rehoboth one can only get and give head in the parking only!
ADORED the trompe-l'oeil on the front of this house.
I heard of Beach Bunnies but never actually saw one!!! I just had to get a snap and send it to Tundra Bunny. After I took the picture, that rabbit was rolling around in the sand having a high ho time. And speaking of ho's, a new square cut that matched a vintage tank perfectly.
The only problem staying at the guest house is all the freshly baked chocolate chip cookies. And the blueberry pancakes that the house manager made for me remembering me saying I enjoyed them, not to mention made me special, some sausages when I got down to breakfast late and they were gone... and even brought them out to the courtyard for me. What a delight...and a wicked juice mixologist she was. It's a wonder that square cut wasn't cutting off my circulation kids.
And if your reading this and go and stay there tell them Maddie sent you.

Looks glorious! You were truly spoilt! I'm not surprised you've already booked again.

When I used to live in my little Bijou apartment in Bucks County it was a much shorter Drive compared to where I live now. But still worth it.
DeleteRehoboth Beach has been on our radar for a long time. Certainly a nice drive down from Rhode Island. It's look... peaceful. Quiet. Needed...
ReplyDeleteThanks for the travelog!

I think you two would probably like it. It might not be as quiet as a Fire Island, but definitely is on his packed as p-town gets. Most of the Hub bub is on the four or five major Avenues in town. And you speak a Rhode Island. That's one place I've always wanted to come see. I just love the Northeast.
DeleteOh, Maddie, I would never want to leave!
ReplyDeleteAnd I didn't want to Mitchell. I strongly think once I retire that might be where I end up. I've always wanted to live along the seaside. Alas, I have a few years yet, lol
DeleteWhat lovely pictures!!!!! You capture the place well. As you know, Im in Slaughter Beach just up the road by 2o minutes, so I jaunt into Rehoboth once a month or twice. While Ptown is more old feeling in time, quaint and charming, Rehoboth to me feel more like it's sophisticated and chic sister. The homes and architecture are beautiful there. And of course Poodle Beach is where to go lay for the afternoon. Who doesn't want to see all the handsome gay men? Next time you come we must meet. We can have a hat lunch!!!
ReplyDeleteAnd you look very svelte in your bright yellow ensemble young man.
That new header?!?!? Even that now gets me hot!!!! I can practically smell and hear the ocean in these pictures. And the guest house does look amazing. I've added it to my "to stay" places.
ReplyDeleteSo did you and the Lad heed the sign and do head in the parking only?
in the parking? And under the boardwalk. In the guest house. In the restrooms. Under the table. On a pinball machine. On the beach. You name where they had head.
DeleteBeing in DC, if you're a beach person Rehoboth is SO convenient to get too. We love it there, as they really embrace the lesbians there. And upon your recommendation, we stayed at the Rehoboth Guest House and weren't not disappointed. It was amazing, well-tended too and all the guest were friendly and mingled. You got so great pictures Mistress.
ReplyDeleteAnd a rabbit on the beach!?!?!?!?!?! How funny is that?
Never been, but I hear good things. Looks like it can be what you want it to be, quiet, or you can party and shop. Best of both worlds. I like Ptown, but only off season. It's getting way to packed on season.
ReplyDeleteBut must admit, your last picture, made me forget my major point whatever it was. Damn boy you got some sexy legs. So many assets.
It was all beauteous! I and the houseboys were just happy to be unshackled from our duties out of the Casa du Borghese and allowed to get some sun. Being social director for you is hell.
ReplyDeleteWonderful and idyllic!
ReplyDeleteOne of our condo board members, co-owns one of the bars.
ReplyDeleteHow beautiful. My sister used to live in Delaware and every time I visited we went to Rehoboth Beach but it wasn't exactly gay gay gay .... this was eons ago. Now it looks wonderful and fun.
ReplyDeleteCarlos and I may have to plan a trip up there soemtime.
It was always Stone Harbor for us, though it's gotten rather pricy now.
