While I was in New York for work and then seeing the new Hudson Yards and playing in Neiman's new store....I think it might have herald the end of my hibernation.
I'm looking forward to my outdoor work outs again, provided it stays nice. Everyone always asks me where to stay in New York. When I used to go up for play, I would stay at my good friend and sister's Mame, aka David Dust. But since he has vacated New York, it is back to hotels. There are so many variables that go into choosing a hotel in the city that it’s always hard to make recommendations. I might just make things easier by telling everyone to stay at the Whitby Hotel. We all don't mind spending frivolous money on one thing or another....hotels are one of mine. I generally like boutique hotels best, as chains I find, one doesn't get the service they used to, and in chains one runs the risk of screaming kids and loud mouth teens. I can't tell you what all that yodeling does to my ears. I have also been finding the up keep and cleanliness of some chains to have gone down hill. I and the ex had a nightmare of a stay at a Best Western once. I still shutter. No. I have no problem dropping doe for a beautiful atmosphere and service and a hotel with a good bar and dinning options.
Love this light fitting!
Each basket has a ticket from country of origin.
A drawing and reading room. Some pretty good titles too.
Their afternoon tea is quite something, and worth it if you don't want lunch or a big dinner.
Kit Kemp has been at the forefront of the international design community, with her signature style that mixes contemporary elements with antiques and junk-shop finds, luxurious fabrics with printed wallpapers, and hand-finished detailing with collections of simple objects that create impact. She avoids taking design too seriously, playing with scale, color and pattern to create very personal, handcrafted spaces. She is the one behind the feel and interior design of the Whitby In New York. It's almost a given it's where I stay when I find myself there. Every stay is like a little adventure and eye candy abounds in the hotel, plus it's a stone throw from the Museum of Modern Art. I almost never wanted to leave my room.
Like Lisa Douglas....I adore a penthouse view.....and martini's in the room!
And you'd be hard pressed to get me out of that tub! Shame I didn't have a man with me.
Now this Saturday night found me in a room at the Hotel Palomar for a had out of towners in for some debauchery . The Palomar is another of my favorite hotels to stay when in town. It's like a little escape in my own backyard.
I have always adored the interior of the elevators.
Cock-a-tails abounded today with brunch and a hang over....and at the other end of the bar was Fern Mallis...so there was that.
Like good blog pal Penguin asked, do you prefer a certain go to hotel, or do you prefer chains over boutique hotels?
