One thing in the drag culture is having a house. I only ever spawned a small house of 7 queens in the heyday of my New Hope days, and the children carry on. But one legendary house is the House of Dion, a family of fierce queens who are thriving with or without Drag Race. The troupe started by Vegas Dion and continues with its mother Athena Dion, who is currently on Drag Race, not one of my choices to win this season but I do adore her. That title may go to her drag daughter Juicy or to Nini Coco. But Athena is stunning and her drag troupe is triumphing- creating a supportive chosen family, proselytizing queer joy to audiences that extend beyond the LGBT community and taking part in community events and fundraising and succeeding.
