BARBADOS

It seems like forever since we last had drinks and talked! It may still be a few days for me to get caught up and make my rounds. The vacation was overdue and very much enjoyed and relaxing. I would have to say most of the time was spent being a huge near naked, beach bum. Some of my friends give me flack for traveling abroad all the time, but for me, I have seen most of what I want to of the US for now. And as I told Travel Penguin on his blog, the world is a big place, with many places. It's nice to get out of the four walls so to speak. This was my first foray into the Carribean, and I was not disappointed. For a hot minute, I gave up gin for the legendary rum which they are so famous. Barbados is small enough that you can easily get around to anywhere you want in an hour, as it's a mere 21 miles long by some 14 miles at its widest point. Located in the heart of the Caribbean, Barbados is popular for its crystal waters, dynamic culture and very warm hospitality. It certainly delivered good times and some fond memories. The colorful and lively capital of Bridgetown which lived up to my expectations. Bustling streets are full of life and noise, fresh foods markets, and boats unloading their catch of the day, charismatic bars, and sensational restaurants. But most of our time was spent on what Barbados is famous for...it's white sandy beaches. The views were spectacular. Our hotel was at Sandy Lane Beach...a ten-minute walk through what seemed like a small rainforest...and then volia....on the beach. The other beach was a more rugged beach, that of Bathsheba Bay.

Our hotel, Cobbers Cove
And behind the hotel was this view.
Which led to this!
Warbucks had some fried Flying Fish. Nope, not me.

A view of Bridgetown.

I soooo need to live at a beach.

  2. Barbados could be my personal PARADISE! I was once, years ago now. If I recall correctly, as your pictures prove, shores of Barbados are beautiful!

On the Caribbean side of the island the waves lap gently at your feet, the sand is fine like sugar. On the Atlantic side of the island however, the waves were for surfers. I look forward to more post and so glad to have you back!

    1. Your correct Agnes! Calm on one side and wild on the other. Like Business up front, party in the back!

  3. Welcome Back! This was worth waiting for. And it looks good about right now. Absolutely beautiful place. Dramatic scenery and dramatic sea shots. The water looks so much prettier than here. A friend from the symphony was just there and he was taken with Bridgetown and all it had to offer. I think this must go on my bucket list.

  5. Breathtaking! The dramatic rock formations are pretty cool to see. I also enjoyed the sign at one of the establishments...great advice! The pictures relaxed me just seeing them.

    1. It was a great change of pace and scenery from my usual Ptown trip. Plus Pearly needed an escape, with always being in Ptown. This is the first summer in years I didn't do Ptown.

  8. Lovely photos.
Island life. It is a nice thing to be able to travel your entire world in less than a day but then it becomes quite claustrophobic. I lived on Maui for several years and it became quite quickly the smallest town in the world; gorgeous but every so often you'd feel the need to get off ... the island, get off the island.

    1. I agree! I had no idea just how small the island was at first. For our purposes it was great, as we got to see most things and were able to also take a trip to Martinque.

  9. OMG, I found out that Google gave your blog a red flags: Sensitive Content . I am ready for any consequences after I am ready to proceed viewing your blog

I don’t blame you for wanting to explore abroad; the world is way too big and colorful to stay in one place. Plus, coming back with stories like this makes catching up over drinks even more fun.

    Big hello from Indonesia

    1. Greetings Asep Haryono!!!!! Yes, I keep a warning on my blog for readers as I feature and discuss whatever comes to mind, and at times that can be racy and a bit naughty at times, lol!!! Just as I can be. I love traveling. It's nice to experience the world and get out of the US, and see what's out there. My only regret is waiting to late in life to start traveling abroad. I was in my thirties when I first went abroad...not including Canada and a trip to Germany when I was little.

Thanks again for stopping in, and feel free to read and comment when you want.

  10. Stunning. Beautiful. Enticing. That beach...I would've ripped my clothes off and run into the water. Probably would've been arrested, though, huh?

  11. Maddie, your travel photos are like picture postcards -- they always transport me away to exotic places... and I thought our native white pelicans here were big, but that one on the beach is HUGE!

    1. You so DON'T want to know how many pictures I took. I'm still sorting!!!! And that pelican was pure chance. I was getting a picture of the fishermen, and didn't even see at first that pelican till he photobombed me. But a good and welcoming photobomb.
