How do you do top couture?.....
You bring it to life. While watching some of the fashion shows recently, one that I was in awe and completely blown away by was one by Dutch designer Iris van Herpen. Granted, I don't know where one would wear these except a red carpet or the Met Gala perhaps, but remember , many fashion designer and buyers and for retail fashion brands will get inspiration by the color, materials, silhouettes and so forth to bring the influence from a runway show to the masses. But as far as a runway show goes, my jaw dropped at the creativity, showmanship and couture of this presentation, and the garments, maybe since the legendary Alexander McQueen. Iris van Herpen opened her latest collection, Sympoiesis at Paris Coutre week with a jaw dropping, show stopping "living look" inhabited by 125 million bioluminescent algae. Nurtured in seawater and encapsulated in a nutrient gel...the dress wasn't constructed, it was cultivated! Iris is known for bringing inspiration from the world we inhabit. Her fashion isn't just about clothes; she treats it perhaps like a science project. And for this show she created the runway into a living reef. The opening look worn by model Stella Maxwell emitted light every time moved. I have my favorite designers for shows, but this.... this was couture and art at a whole new level, I've never seen....very magical. The one dress at the 6:01 mark reminds me of a stunning jellyfish, or a heavenly angel the way the fabric flows. And the flesh tone ensembles at the 3:05 mark?
STUN-NING! Brava!
Interesting.
ReplyDeleteI saw her runway.
ReplyDeleteStunning. Like you said, these designers spark the trends that we get in main street. We're not gonna see THIS but this will inspire those cargo pants from Khol's. This is art. Really.
XOXO
That is fabulous. Mesmerizing, I enlarged the screen and the detail on the dresses is stunning. Thast black dress with the wings? Funberal drag and I love it.
ReplyDeleteAn art show, indeed.
The craftsmanship and Detail in these ensembles is off the charts. In many of them the fabric flows like liquid gold!!!
DeleteI agree Mistress....the fabric just flows like liquid! The bioluminescent algae is amazing.
DeleteShe takes fashion to a whole new level, that's for sure. Gorgeous creations!
ReplyDeleteThis was interesting. Bravo!! to the Light Designer. Several hinted at Elizabethan influence. The one appeared to be a wedding gown (which was beautiful). Movement was crucial to this show.
ReplyDeleteAnd this was all Iris's vision. And some of those lights were not even light, it was bioluminescent algae.
DeleteMaddie, I knew you'd eventually get around to sharing this designer's vision of haute couture and art with your many viewers. Iris is truly a visionary and I can't wait to see her future endeavors.
ReplyDeleteWith the exception of Schiaparelli, this is probably the most creative and artistic fashion show I have probably seen since the days of Alexander McQueen and John Galliano.
DeleteThose are some stunning looks there.
ReplyDelete"Smart casual"... Perfect for the office! 🤣🤣🤣 Jx
ReplyDeleteI swear darling some days we just think the same. Like you I like to keep my office attire simple.

Fantastic-looking, if not all that practical.
ReplyDeleteOMG!!!! Breathtaking, beyond fashion, now and future, pure art.
ReplyDeleteThis is exactly the type of creativity and light we need during such dark and awful times. Art has a way of transcending human banality while simultaneously reducing our experience to it bare bones. What and utterly opulent and heady showing. Absolutely no comparison to other shows I saw on line.
ReplyDeleteI agree Mistress with that one dress at the 609 point. Just jaw dropping.
ReplyDeleteSTUNNING Collection. Iris van Herpen has once more expanded far beyond the boundaries of fashion then any other designer at the moment, with a line that embodies ethereal shapes, exquisite colors, and graceful flow. I adore the way she elegantly captures movement with designs and fabrics that defy gravity and float effortlessly across the runway. BRAVA once again to her for her unique and magnificent creations and continuing to push the boundaries of convention.
