It's been a busy weekend around here. Some time spent in the garden today. The weather of late has been glorious...I dare even say heavenly. Thank heavens the humidity broke...I was beginning to think I had a mushroom farm. Sleeping at night has been so relaxing with cooler temps and open window sleeping, open windows in general. This weekend I attended my fifth protest since the Great Oaf took office. The Rage Against the Regime protest left me a bit disappointed as it was not attended like the last four, and I wondered if people are giving up. I like to hope it's only because people are vacationing. Friends in Philly said it was a HUGE protest. I can say it's one city that just hates and despises the dump more than others, and it's made funnier only because it's basically the birth of the nation and where much history and important declarations were written. After, I had my good friends Wayne's Pool party and Chicken corn soup picnic to attend, which is always a good time. The soup is actually made in a huge cast iron pot, and hung and cooked over a open fire. It was delish, not to mention all the other foods! Today was spent doing bits and bobs in the garden and making 3 loaves of zucchini bread... my neighbor gave me two very nice size, 13" and thick zucchini's. ( reminds me to give Claudio and Mario a call) But the garden of late still continues forth, giving us color and amazement.
I do miss hummingbirds. Wondrous little things. Your gardens are always glorious and obviously cared for. I wonder who here has ever even heard of deviled eggs.

ReplyDeleteLovely garden - and I am particularly taken with that "Schiaparelli Shocking Pink" salvia! All salvias are faboo, and we have an ever-expanding collection of them, but there's always room for another... 😜

I knew you'd know!!!!!! And funny. no matter how many plants or flowers have, there is ALWAYS room for one more! It seems. That is a new salvia I bought too, and was actually misplaced with no tag. I assumed it was like the purple ones I already had. What a surprise when it bloomed.

ReplyDeleteWhere to start? I love the poppies! Not enough people grow them, not sure why. I loved the black velvet petunia, and the ballerinas are fabulous. but a nice wildflower garden always makes me happy. So many colors.
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed all the color and variety. It's so hot here this Summer that everything is being burned by the sun and turning brown. Maybe we should move East???

Love the combination of plants and the feeling of 'country garden' it has in some areas. You have done well this year Mistress. I loved seeing the ballerinas. I never had luck with them. And the tomato soup coneflower is so lively!!! I just love coneflowers.

ReplyDeleteWe have hummingbirds galore in our So Cal backyard and our roses don’t quit. Sadly they’re hybrids with no scent just big showy blooms and big ass thorns. Though we have one rose bush that has scent, 2 or 3 roses in a vase and they fill the room with their fragrance.
Our honeysuckle covered a fence that had to be replaced, its remnants are gradually growing back.
Haven’t had zucchini bread in ages, but do make date nut bread served with whip cream, or sliced like a sandwich and spread with a layer of whipped cream cheese mixed with liqueur and maraschino cherries.
As for the deviled eggs I make them
with finely chopped herbs, parsley, green onions and black olives mixed with mayo and mustard. On special occasions I top them off with lumpfish caviar. Great with champagne for New Year’s.
