MEMORIAL DAY

While the Mistress labored over whether to hang my flags out this year in memory of family...friends and our beloved fallen veterans and current serving....with the current state and feel of the country I just couldn't do it. First time...in I think ever, I haven't. But after talking with several friends, and our dear Milleson, who are veterans, they themselves we're not even placing flags out. But much like others I spoke to it's been eerily quiet in the neighborhood.

But let's all take time to really remember and thank the fallen and the veterans who have protected our country and the freedoms that we've had this far. So thank you.

Buster Bolfig, who is with his other parent...wishes everyone a fun and safe Memorial Day weekend!

  1. BUSTER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Happy Memorial Day Maddie. I feel much the same way. I don't have a garden, but I usually place flags in my windows boxes, and I didn't this year. Coundn't.

    Happy Memorial to our Veterans.

  2. I know what you mean. Even though the seniors are having a BBQ later this afternoon, I can feel a pall in the air, and I’m not up to changing my header to a Memorial Day theme … the equivalent of your not hanging a flag. The fact that the Draft Dogger is making a mockery of those who served, by planning a military parade for himself, isn't helping the mood.

    1. And after his disgusting comment he made today...I hope he finds a pine box soon. He can never keep it classy and act like a presidential. A national embarrassment. As Blanche Deveraux said- "He can eat dirt and die trash."

    2. What else is new? Trump marks every day with unhinged all caps rants! A national embarrassment.

  3. How awful that these idiots have cast a pall over putting up a flag.

    1. And the sad part is that he and his supporters use the flag as much, on display, and wearing it in crazy idiotic ensembles... I'm sure some fear they will be mistaken for MAGA'S if they place a flag out. Hardly any flags are visible in my neighborhood this year. Sad really.

    2. I was never a flag waver, but I would be concerned now that I’d be mistaken for a maggot.

  4. Yeah, the Prez took the opportunity to brag that he has everything. The crowd gathered at Arlington didn't seem to mind, which is even MORE depressing.

  5. You're not alone. As being in the Airforce for 8 years, even I feel the same way. No way could I want to defend the country now, if this was when I enlisted. Just knowing how you really know the meaning of the day is enough for me.

But the joyful word “happy” has rubbed some people the wrong way and caused quite a debate this year. I'm almost 80 and have never heard anyone say "Happy Memorial Day." And just seeing the great buffoon at Arlington laying a wreath made me sick. Spare he the image, after he gutted the VA which is already a joke in operations.

As a vet I've heard the phrase "thank you for your service," which with us Vietnam War vets rings hollow. No one thanked us for our service back in the 60's and 70's. That would have meant something then. Instead, we were ridiculed, called names and berated by many.

  7. Hope your weekend is going nice Mistress? I too am in the same boat, and placed no flags out this year. Doesn't even seem like Memorial Day this year. And trump seems to have a lot to say about the subject, considering her himself never served!! The coward.

  8. Seeing Buster salvages any day!!!

And the pres can just chill. I read an article some time ago. The Draft Dodging Coward comes from a Family of Draft Dodging Cowards....Even in Germany the, "drumph's "were Draft Dodgers...Then off to America to become a Pimps. Quite the collection of toilet rats.

  9. We can still have a good Memorial Day and remember the real reason for it. let celebrate our fallen for what they did for us.

Donald Trumps mouth should be glued shut like Keanu Reeves in the first Matrix movie. After saying that those who served in WW 2 were Losers and Suckers. And yes this was confirmed by multiple sources and even Fox News in his first term.

  13. Americans have always been more overtly patriotic than us Canucks, so it's especially poignant that so many are not flying the flag this year. There's absolutely nothing about the orange turd and his administration of which to be proud -- perhaps more Americans will take this day to reflect on that and what so many military men and women have sacrificed for American democracy.

    1. I once heard someone say. "It's alright to be patriotic for your country, because it deserves it, but your government must earn it." That sums my thoughts up...and some days both are hard currently. Otherwise, it was a lovely day. Just seemed to have a very low key feel to the holiday this year.

  14. I went off the Union Jack as it started to have unsavoury connotations, so I understand your feelings.

  15. Right there with you. I have no love for our flag; not since it was corrupted by SCROTUS, MAGA and the GOP. When he's dead (not soon enough) and they are gone (ditto), I'll proudly fly (daily) it again.

But the husband is a four-year Army vet, and he IS "Mr. Red-White-and-Blue". For HIM, I stomached the disgust I have for vision of SCROTUS smugly molesting the Stars & Stripes, and raised it for the day.

  16. I am reading more early American history, don't give up hope, the country has survived before and will again.

    1. I wholly agree. We will get past this. I just hope the next time, WE LEARNED FROM THESE TIMES and don't let some polished turd take over the country.

    2. I sure hope you're right. The GOP has been working at this for 60 years now, and they've learned how to skirt laws and grab power.

    3. Rade..... polished? That's one word I never would have put with Trump! LOL!!

  17. Honestly, I never put out flags, which is odd since I am a Veteran.

    1. It's not odd. My father was a WWII vet; fought in "The Battle of the Bulge" and marched across Belgium. He never put up a flag other than the "Flag on a stick" I got to put going out our front walkway on Memorial Day, the 4th and Veterans Day. He just never felt compelled to do more. Consider yourself in good company; and thank you for your service!

  18. It's not something i have ever done. And all us men in the family served during wartime (WWi, WWII, Korea, & Vietnam).

  19. This Memorial Day Weekend was weird. No parties were thrown and only three American flags were on display on my block.

We never have put up a flag during Memorial Day. And we had family go fight in the Gulf War, Korea, Ww2, Ww1, the Civil War and the Revolutionary War.
As great granpa said to the family, too many damned wars !

    1. That's true RJ. I think I had family in all the same words as you did except it ended with my father who was in World War II. After that we had no more family members in the service except my nephew who was in Desert Storm.

  22. I think so many of us feel the same Maddie. What bothers me is how the MAGA have hijacked Patriotism and perverted it, soiling the Reputation of America and actual Patriots who have preserved and supported Democracy, not just here, but Globally, many of which who made the ultimate Sacrifice of giving their Lives. This Administration is led by a Coward who pretended to have Bad Feet to evade the Draft and had the gall to call our Military a bunch of Suckers and Losers, he is a National Disgrace and no Patriot of America and what it should always stand for.
