And she's not wrong. I played there several times and it's definitely not one of my favorite venues. And compared to other venues it's nowhere near as Grand as it could be. The building and the interior is extremely dated. So maybe it's appropriate Trump's there.
I had the pleasure to visit the Kennedy Center and hear a performance of Handel's Messiah in the concert hall in late 1972. The building was very new and still had that "new car interior smell" after a year of operation. What I remember are the large expanses of red carpeting, the height of the ceiling and the modern crystal chandeliers. The interior may look dated now but in 1972 it was breathtaking. Remembering that trip, I later read an architectural review of the exterior and the reviewer thought the vertical roof supports looked like toothpicks in proportion. tRUMP's takeover of the center and his stolen chairman of the board position was unbelievable and appalling. As we continue through this ruthless takeover of the government in order to ensconce himself as the mad king of America, I have no doubt that his action in this instance will also be ruled illegal by the courts; executive orders are not lawful and self-appointments are not in the purview of this pathetic ninny. How the republican members of the house and senate can continue to sit by and let this creature destroy a country in this manner remains a mystery. How stupid of them not to realize that many of them will be kicked to the curb when he ascends to the throne. Why would the legislative branch capitulate its constitutional legal authority to the executive branch when they don't need to? We need heroes now, not heels.
And yet he still is getting away with stuff. He has also said he black ball artist who cancel from the Kennedy Center. You can imagine the type of entertainment artist he'd get in there....Kidd Rock for a start.
I agree with Ms LuPone and I'm assuming she meant "blown up" in a metaphorical sense, so as to not give TFG's* lapdogs a reason to charge her with "terrorism" which seems to be the latest catch phrase for those who disagree with him! xoxo *TFG = The Fat Git
I don't exactly know how Madame LuPone meant it. But if his lap dogs come after you for disagreeing with him, but I might be right behind her getting round up.
The red carpets were replaced last year. The seating in the concert hall is a bit aged. The columns outside look like water main pipe painted semi gold (they look like a budget cut.) The building needs money spent on it, not just patching it up, but doing what should have been done when it was built. That being said, the performances are world class, the artists are dedicated and committed to enthralling the audience.
I adore her and although I agree with her in spirit, Patti is old and has lost her filter. She is becoming borderline Kathy Griffin and is at risk of blowing up her career with her irrational rantings.
Love her! The Broadway legend was speaking to a reporter, when the subject of whether Trump would enjoy her current musical show came up. She said simply: “Well I hope he doesn’t come and see it, because I won’t perform if he does.”
When the reporter pressed her for a reason, Patti - clearly ready to move on from the topic of Donald Trump - bluntly stated: “Because I hate the motherfucker. How’s that?”
