TODAY SHOULD BE A.......

SAY SOMETHING HAT DAY!!!!!

And we know I love me a chapeau and millinery!! For the wedding today of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle we are bound to have many hats hats hats!!! I also am fascinated by all the pomp , protocol, and circumstance. Love watching all the royalty show up  A fascinator is a headpiece, a style of millinery. Fascinators were originally a type of lightweight knitted head-covering. Since the 1990s the term refers to a form of formal headwear worn as an alternative to the hat; it is usually a large decorative design attached to a band or clip, sometimes incorporating a base to resemble a hat, in which case it may be called a hatinator.

Today, a fascinator is worn on occasions where hats are customary, sometimes serving as an evening accessory, when it may be called a cocktail hat. It is generally worn with fairly formal attire. A substantial fascinator is a fascinator of some size or bulk. Bigger than a barrette, modern fascinators are commonly made with feathers, flowers or beads They need to be attached to the hair by a comb, headband or clip. They are particularly popular at premium horse-racing events, such as the Grand National, Kentucky Derby and the Melbourne Cup. At the wedding of Prince William and Catherine Middleton in April 2011, various female guests arrived wearing fascinators. Among them was Princess Beatrice of York, who wore a piece designed by the Irish milliner Philip Treacy, who is the most famous hat designer today.

And new flash to Serena Williams. You better hold on to that husband of yours. Did you guys see how hot and dashing he was?!?!?!?!?!?!

I also thought Sarah Ferguson, Duchess of York looked good for the day.

  1. I too love a good hat. No where near enough women wear them anymore. I have been very impressed with the modern twists and with Queen Elizabeth with the update twist to the day. Much different then Prince Charles or Prince William's weddings. I love all these hats and would gladly wear any of them.

    1. When my grandmother died, we were cleaning her house and came across tons of hats from milliners. Each in their own box. Boy how times have changed.

  3. Congratulations to Meghan and Harry!

I might only have one eye completely open...but I'm watching live coverage, and I love seeing all the fashionable hats too, especially Joy Reid's blue chapeau! And Sophia the Countess of Essex looked great as did Fergie, I agree.

  4. Those hats are stunning if not art. Being a woman of color our church over flows with hats on Sunday.

The wedding was beautiful. Their best gift is a sunny day in England!

  5. Hello, Duchess Deedles Downer here with my two cents. These are cute little hatlets but for me to wear anything hatlike it would be to cover the fact that I didn't feel like picking out my 'fro. These serve no useful purpose, for me anyway. My head's too big :)

I honestly don't understand all of the fascination with weddings, royal or otherwise. Should my girly card get taken away? I've seen way too many marriages that don't live up to the weddings. Pity, that.

I pity da foo who tries to take Serena's man! Have you seen her arms? I hear she's good at swinging a racket, too!

    2. Afterthought: Thank you for clearing up what a fascinator is, Maddie. Now I can watch Oklahoma and know what the heck Aunt Eller is talking about! I, for some reason, thought it was eyewear, like a monocle or something.

    3. Ms. Moorecock, that's SILVER foxy Cleopatra, thank you very much! Solid! I've watched Undercover Brother one too many times this week.

    4. Now Duchess Deedles, like you said I'm a old soul trap in a modern boy. These kind of events always fascinate me. The pomp and such and the dress. If I went to a church now, I'd probably me appalled by the dress. Now gets this. IA good friend of mine is getting married and having me, the only guy to her bridal shower!!!! And the theme is dress in your best English attire. Fascinator required. Not sure I'll wear one or go with a top hat or bowler...decked out with flowers of course. Im sure her wedding will be stunning.

Now honey you can keep the girl card!!!

  10. I immediately thought of you and hats!!!!!! I watched a bit of the service. Exquisite. Everything about this wedding is exquisite.

And Americans could learn a lot from this on how to move forward with the times and include ALL. It was a modern day, mix of everyone.

  12. Those hats are FABULOUS!!!!!!!

I was very moved at watching William and Harry together. Since they were little, they have survived together. Diana should be proud. I got teary eyed seeing them together at the church.

  17. I missed the show. Hats and shoes, tops and bottoms, things of beauty.

  18. Some fascinating fascinators on display at the Royal Wedding. I was most surprised with how restrained Princesses Beatrice's and Eugenie's were, as they usually go a little overboard with their headgear.

It was a wonderful wedding, and it's still a beautiful day! I believe The Queen arranged for the weather to be so perfect. She's good like that.

I too was surprised by Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie's hats. But Sarah Fergson looked great.

  20. It was a lovely day for an enchanting, beautiful wedding. The couple looked radiant, he handsome, she gorgeous. And yes, there were many fascinating hats worn by the beautiful people. But nothing beats the exquisite, extraordinary, and resplendent Filigree Tiara of Queen Mary of Teck that Megan wore.

I would wear that tiara to work! Heck, I'd wear that tiara while scrubbing pots and pans and taking out the garbage!

Congratulations to the newlyweds! Best wishes and much happiness, good health, and lots of love and laughter to Megan and Harry. Cheers!

    1. Now I have a mental picture of you dancing around the house doing chores, wearing nothing but a tiara and a smile. I have no idea what you look like, but I have a very good, (and at times, raunchy) imagination!

    2. You got Deedles all worked up dear. Filigree Tiara of Queen Mary of Teck.....what a nice touch on the day. What a branch for Her Majesty to offer for the new duchess.

  22. Listen it's a great day for a say something hat day! I owe to fascinators myself. The Royals set a good example in race relations. Enjoyed the coverage from start to finish. Worth getting up early to watch.

  24. I missed the show, but of course the time difference had something to do with that. I love hats, especially the ones Philip Treacy creates. I also still love the one Aretha Franklin wore to Obama's inauguration.

  25. I love hats - and the wide array of hats at the wedding were the first things that caught my eye...

....well, actually, the hats were the SECOND thing that caught my eye. I was busy scanning the audience for cute British men (and I wasn't disappointed).

  26. I had never really known about fascinators until the previous royal wedding. They are huge here in Spain. Shops in our neighborhood in Sevilla custom-made some incredible works of art. Here they're called tocados.

  27. Now, those are indeed some hats! I wonder why I don't see many hats at wedding in America?

Regardless of race, Harry and Meghan seem to be meant to be together. They look so "in love" and very comfortable together.

  28. It was great to see the shocking and most elegant wedding. Filled with hats!!!!!

But why are the Brits making such a big deal about a “mixed race” princess/duchess? Does no one know of the DANISH Royal family? They’ve had a “mixed race” princess for almost 20 years.

  29. I get pretty excited over hats too. Phillips Treacy is a genus what he can do with them.
