ENGAGING MUSEUM

I have to say, this weekend was a beauty of one.Right before Warbucks was going to take off, he wanted to go to the Philadelphia Museum of Art to feel cultured I believe, what with a week of fine food and eating out and  just a few cock-a-tails. I love dinning out...but talk about to many earthly delights! I adore Warbucks, but between his energy, squiring me all over, and the few gift he brought, which I won't mention what they were, can be taxing after a week...but off we went anyway.

So it was off to Philly for the day, and we were also joined by my friend Preston who stayed over night. The Philadelphia Museum of Art is a art museum originally chartered in 1876 for the Centennial Exposition in Philadelphia. The main museum building was completed in 1928 on Fairmount, a hill located at the northwest end of the Benjamin Franklin Parkway at Eakins Oval. The museum administers collections containing over 240,000 objects including major holdings of European, American and Asian origin. The various classes of artwork include sculpture, paintings, prints, drawings, photographs, armor, and decorative arts. The Philadelphia Museum  also administers several annexes including the Rodin Museum, that I also just featured a few weeks ago and is also located on the Benjamin Franklin Parkway. It quite a very engaging place and so beautiful. The exterior alone feels majestic and I could take pictures of just the architecture of it.
But don't ever expect me to take pictures of the damn Rocky Statue. I despise that thing!!!! I've made many a prayer to Athena to send a lightening bolt down to take that thing out. I am much more in love with the Statue of Diana in the main rotunda staircase.

My favorite things to see that day..
I  was pining over this gorgeous silver epergne .I’ve always wanted one of these - this one is spectacular. May be a bit out of my price range though, and where would I place it in my bungalow?
Two majestic works by renowned artist Ursula von Rydingsvard in the Museum’s Sculpture Garden. First constructed in cedar and then cast in bronze and urethane resin. This is one of two of them, and they were gigantic, but very cool.

Preston sent me a picture he took with a drone the next day, since we all stayed in Philly. Don't get me started on them either. I could have killed him playing with that thing while we were outside on the grounds, but since he is hot and ripped, I forgave him. But had I been the Dowager Countess, he'd got hit with my cane. But I must admit the picture is pretty cool looking, seeing toward the Schuylkill River.

The other place we visited, I'll share later for Deedles, but of course after that art viewing... as with any visit with me...
Daddy Warbucks has finally left after a 11 day visit to return to his place in Denver, then head back to main residence in Connecticut. Between working, packing overnight bag here and there, and running between the Casa du Borghese and the Raven, not to mention late nights....the Mistress needs a good lounge and rest.

For him being 61 and not needing Viagra, I will say he is impressing.
Regardless....I need to lounge now.

  1. These are the kinds of things that I love to see! Unfortunately, I'd have to travel to see them. I'll stick with camping and whatever is near. Drones, huh? I guess that's what old things have to deal with for surviving into the modern age.
Now, balder half and I are sixty-two. He hit his sexual peak at seventeen and stayed there! Sometimes I wish he needed Viagra and that we couldn't afford it! If he goes first, I want to donate his libido to science. Anyway, relax, drink and rest up. Tomorrow is hump day!
Did I mention I love these pictures? Well I do.

    1. Sort of like curly haired people want it straight and straight haired want it curly, huh? Nobody's satisfied, so to speak :)
Afterthought: be careful, Carebear. Feeling up Cheerios may be a felony in some parts of the country! You just never know nowadays. Better to go with Trix.

    5. Cap'n Crunch is the best!!! I know I probably should be eating oats or something but I cheat with the Captain!

Maddie I have always said the difference between a randy young guy and a horny old man is just age.

  4. What the fuck is a epergne? So kind of kinky sex toy for you two?

    1. It could be used to hold condoms I guess, but a epergne is a type of table centerpiece, usually made of silver, and generally has a large central "bowl" or basket sitting on three to five feet. From this center "bowl" radiate branches supporting small baskets, dishes, or candleholders. The basket usally holds fruit of flowers. You won't find it in the bed dear.

  7. Looks like a great day to me. It's one of our favorite museums outside of The Met in NY. Art Overload! This museum has so much more to offer than you might gather from all the greats from Picasso, Van Gogh, Dali, Gauguin, Matisse, Degas, Monet, Cassatt...even Warhol!

But Warbucks tuckered you out!?!? What's this world coming to? You got some great pictures.

  8. William and I seem to never tire of going to the PMOA. A vast and wonderful treasure house.I loved the American rooms, filled with Eakins and the Peales and all kinds of interesting stuff. Then there was the Renaissance collection which I can't have enjoyed more. I love that place.

11 days?!?!? Hell if I even gave William Viagra, I'd be lucky to still get sex at his age!!! Take it away you can kid!

  10. Gorgeous! What a spectacular and stunning building! And what magnificent treasures this glorious building showcases! Tell Diana that I have forwarded her picture to her gynecologist and he sends the all clear. She can put on pants now...or just let it all hang out....

Now I'm curious. Is there really a Rocky statue or is this a local joke at the expense of tourists? Like the basement at the Alamo (there isn't one!)?

    1. the rocky status used to be located down in south philly by the stadiums. then it was moved to a place near the iconic steps outside the museaum.

    2. museum - 6a and I can't spell shit! CAWFEE! STAT!

    3. Anna Marie is correct Eros. It's a bronze statue in the vicinity of the steps rocky was so famous running up. I'm not a fan of the statue, the movies or Sylvester Stallone.

    4. Thank y'all for the info! And if and when I get to see that extraordinary museum, I'll be taking a pic of the Rocky statue, to prove that it does exist! Unlike the "donkey show" we heard rumors about in Tijuana. Oh, there were donkeys, but they were pulling carts or carrying loads. Totally not what we were expecting--thankfully, the donkey show was just a rumor; there's no such thing, thank goodness. But we were curious and had a morbid fascination, like passing by the scene of a car accident, we just wanted to see for ourselves.

    2. Ketamine? Sorry, too many detective novels. I could go for a big bowl of Cocoa Puffs myself.

    3. I am either more fruit loops or granola myself.

    4. @Mitchell...Trix are so much better than Fruit Loops! I loved them as a kid until we got a rabbit. I then noticed that they look like psychedelic bunny turds and my widdle bwain connected that with the Trix wabbit. Coca Puffs looked more realistically rabbit turd like, but they were represented by a bird so no connection.

  12. When I lived in Philly, the museum and Fairmount area was a good place to blow or day or two if you had days off or time to kill. It's one of my favorites.

I hope Warbucks did put you down for the count??? That, would be like the end of an era?!

  13. It is a fantastic museum, I need to get back to Philly - I need to get back to Philly.

  14. I was going to ask about the Rocky statue, too, but this has been answered. I will admit to scanning the photos for a statue of Princess Diana... then I kind of got that this wasn't the Diana you meant...

  15. Those were lovely pictures. It's been a long, long time since I've been to any type of museum. I think I went to the local automotive museum around 2002.

  16. Don't get me started on "Rocky." Ugh. Saw a play last night about boxing - sort of - And thank goodness for that, because I hate boxing...people beating each other up "for sport." No. That's not a sport. If it is, it's fucking cruel one and should not be glorified. ***WHK steps down from his soapbox.***
    Hugs!!!

    1. I've always hated boxing. If two people where out in public beating on each other while in their underwear, they'd be arrested. Yet folks pay to watch this stuff!

    2. I've always been a lover...not a fighter. That's why every Mistress Maddie action figure comes with a huge hunk of man to take care of things!

  19. One of the best museums I've been too. That garden sculpture is very unusual, but looks like it should have a little house at that top. I hate drones to, but must agree, that picture your friend took is pretty neat.

  20. What a wonderful place to visit on a spring day (but preferably a rainy spring day...). I really enjoyed the photos. That statue of Diana is spectacular. And the paintings!

    But I definitely agree - I don't like the Rocky statue....or drones...
