Over the years I have had the pleasure of seeing the fabulous Lady Bunny many times, and every time seems to be just as fun and a hot mess as always. The first time I met her was in the line to use the bathroom at the legendary club, Palladium. She threatened to get out her brandin iron if the line didn't move faster. The worst time was when she dj once for a gay Pride at the Raven, where we talked and drank, and drank, and drank some more. It was ugly I tell ya. Last night was no different. Lady Bunny was back in New Hope where she brought her show Trans-Jester to our fair hamlet. It was sold out and they even had to move the venue from the Oak Room, to the main dance floor to accommodate the audience. The show itself was true Bunny hilarity, her infamous pop song parodies, her lovely Laugh-In shtick, and her foul mouthed , snarky jokes about everyone from Trump, the Kardashians and everyone in between. Of course, we can't over look her fabulous style and wigs!!! Hell, she was my inspiration for getting into drag when I did it.
By time the show was over, it was safe to say, my sides and everybody's sides hurt from all the laughter. Afterwards there was a meet and greet, then we retired to the Oak Room, where every Saturday night all the queens gather around the baby grand to sing show tunes all night.
Sounds like a gay men's chorus in there. But it is after all one of the Raven's Traditions. I even met one of the guys singing at the piano, a very muscular guy in very tight clothing. It was hard not to meet him, when Bunny places your hand in his crotch. He sang even more beautifully later that night!!!! But that's a fascinating tale for another time. Here's Bunny with the Razz Rooms hostess with the mostess Carol.
Look out London.....she's headin your way next to London’s Soho Theatre Feb 14-25.
