I can remember the first time I did drag. Talk about scared, But I always had big balls and went out and did it!!!
I had the best time, and then ended up doing drag for shows, but mostly became the Social "It" queen at the clubs, and parties to keep the crowd happy and entertained or the lure. The Amanda Lepore if you will, and continued for the next 10 years!!!! What captured me was the transformation, and still does amaze me. I was also enthralled by the crowd loving the Mistress Borghese, as well... it also gave me another outlet to express myself, and helped bring my boy personality to the surface....which the Mistress Borghese was a terrible influence!!! When I get asked questions, I think this video really answers a lot of questions I would get asked. So..... How do fabulous queens become the creatures they were meant to be? Find out here in these outtakes from the 2013 documentary I AM DIVINE. Very candid.Featuring Jackie Beat, Bebe Zahara Banet, John Cantwell, John Epperson aka Lypsinka, Joshua Grannell aka Peaches Christ, the fabulous Heklina, Brian Entler aka Lady Bear, Mark Payne, and the legendary Holly Woodlawn.

Tootles!
How long did it take you to get ready for a performance?
ReplyDeleteDid you do design own outfits or looks?
Would you ever consider coming out of retirement?
Well from start to finish it took about 2 1/2 hours, or a small miracle. When it came to ensembles, I'm am unfortunately not good with the thread and needle....to much gin. I would buy items or pieces and a seamstress friend of mine would do the work. We too had created some thongs from scratch. As far as retirement? At this point probably not. I do still do an occasional show for a charity, but I alas, don't have to time now with all my suitors, job responsibly and travel. Thank you for your query.
DeleteGreat video! Would never have recognized Peaches. And yes a question. So how was the dating when doing drag???
ReplyDeleteI had a bad taste in my mouth after dating one guy. So after it ended, I did drag to keep men at bay, since I was over them. But I still need up dating. I even met the guy I had my first real relationship with. But when I met him as me, he was talking about a drag queen he'd met a couple times and how he thought she was a riot. He had no idea it was me, till I told him. He was fine with it till once when he saw me getting ready. It lasted another year and it ended. Some people can't deal with a person who has too much fashion sense for one sex.
DeleteWhat an insightful video. I wonder how many queens started like Lady Bear. And you personally.....when do you know drag was cool to do? Love your coming out ensemble.
ReplyDeleteI knew drag was cool when one new years eve friends of mine rented a limo and we went to downtown Harrisburg. I got out of the limo and was approached by some frat boys who wanted a group picture. They were so cool. I knew then that drag was getting popular
Deletewhat inquiring minds really want to know is how did you tuck the thing?
ReplyDeleteIt starts with a roll of duck tape for that sucker..........
DeleteWhat you think of bearded drag performers like Conchita Wurst? I assume you preferred to be cleanly shaved yourself!
ReplyDeleteI usually don't like it, but he and Mathu Anderson pull it off beautifully. And your right....im shaven like a babies bottom!
DeleteI have only seen you once dressed up and was amazed you couldn't see YOUR junk. Enjoyed the video.
