DEMOCRACY

The other day I couldn't resist and went to see Independence Hall, a short train ride for me. It made me feel better and brought some comfort oddly. In 1776, the Second Continental Congress signed the Declaration of Independence here. Eleven years later, in the same room, delegates to the Constitutional Convention created and signed an enduring framework of government - the United States Constitution. Although known today as Independence Hall, the building was constructed to be the Pennsylvania State House. And today, a little more than half the country decided that democracy would win, and honor democracy and the constitution, not abuse it. Congratulations to President elect Biden and Vice President elect Harris. It will be nice to have grown ups running the country again!!!!

A time to gain, a time to lose
A time to rend, a time to sew
A time for love, a time for hate
A time for peace, I swear it's not too late!

Yes. Im in tears. And the current mood in Bucks County

  28. To everyone celebrating. I'm there with you in spirit!!!!! However being in a family of nearly all Trump voting conservatives in a community, in county, in a state of mostly Trump voting conservatives. I can't celebrate unless I want to make a target out of myself and have them take out their frustrations on. Being the only liberal member of my immediate family I've already heard enough today about, and how It's all my fault.

So celebrate for me, and the other Americans like me. You give us the hope that keeps us going

I love your post and the picture a wise and perfect choice.

The only history Donald Trump made will be the first elected President in US history to be impeached and defeated, in his first term, and the worst one ever No recount will change that. No legal challenge will change that. The Supreme Court will not change that. That will be his history.

We have a ways to go to win back the trust of our allies and the world, but I'd say this is a pretty good start tonight. The Republicans need to really look at there party... Even my R friends have said this.

  35. Dear Maddie, thanks for this enjoyable post --and a bit of time-travel for me. In the summer of 1964, I was one of 52,000 Boy Scouts headed for the International Jamboree at Valley Forge. Of course my busload paused at Independence Hall and I recall the statue of John Barry on the way in. Its pedestal --at that time, maybe still-- just said "Barry" on it. His hand was about 3/4-raised in salute or salutation. I was tired, carrying a pack and dufflebag, but I looked up, waved and said "Hello and thanks to you too, Barry!" It wasn't 'til autumn, when I returned to California, that I read about him. Commodore John Barry held a place of honor and dignity as founder of American Navy but, to a tired teen greeted by a friendly bronze guy on a pedestal, he'll always just be "Barry" to me.

    1. Thanks Geo. No...your memory serves. Barry is still there and still says simply "Barry" This statue always seems to get skipped since it's located in Independence square and there is a lot to do around here, with Liberty Bell and such...so it's understandable why it would. Barry played an important role in our American history that most folks are not aware.

  37. Listening to the acceptance speeches last night brought a lump to my throat. Someone said that Uncle Joe said “god” in his speech more times than 45 has in four years.

The speech was heartfelt, coherent and inspiring. Now, let’s bring in two Democratic senators from Georgia!

Maybe this is what brought the vote?

    I can't believe it happened.
Last week was the longest, most nerve wrecking week in the last years. Seriously.
But now Uncle Joe is well on his way to kick Cheeto out of the white house. And Kamala will smile and send the Devil's Butler packing.

    So good.
