A FOR ALPACAS

I mentioned the other day I love Mulled Cider. LOVE IT! But I have been going through Apple Cider like crazy. Sometimes even for breakfast I will skip OJ for apple cider. And it's beyond me why. I very seldom eat raw apples, and if I do, I dip them in that soft warmed caramel. My doctor once said to lay off the gin. He said eat an apple every time you want a gin. I says," yeah Doc, but who wants to eat 15 apples a day?" So by drinking the cider it evens it out. When I went to the farm on Monday, the usual lady there couldn't believe I was back and said no way did I go through two quarters already, to which I relied- yep. I also get my bird seed here. I like going there. Its community and everybody knows you. After looking over several of their baked sundries and thinking my waist needs no more help in expanding. I passed. And then asked if I could go feed the pen. I was told to knock myself out. The sheep were gone and now they brought to the farm their Alpacas, and I now want one!!!!! Look at those eyes! And my inner queen wants those eye lashes!!!!!!
The only knowledge of alpacas I know is that they are very smart, gentle, easy to handle, and each have their own personality. They also are great companions to other animals like goats, cows and such, and have a herd mentality and should not live alone. So...I took my bag and went off to feed them and the little goats.
They did warm up before I left and would let me stroke their heads and neck. But the one above on the left tried several times to push the other from getting his share of food. But all were happy before I left. It made for a delightful moment that day.
And their various pumpkins gave a cheer too! Nothing like pumpkin porn yawl!!!
I really need to get out more. Pumpkins are getting me excited.

Fairytale Pumpkin?!?!?! Now all I need is my Prince Charming, Fairy Godmother, some mice and I'll have it made. I can always dream......

    take care, xoxo k :-)

  2. They're so mischievous looking - but, being in the camel family like Llamas, I believe they spit and bite. They're used as guardians for sheep because they join forces and could easily kick a fox or stray dog to death if it threatened the lambs. Jx

PS Cider for breakfast sounds tempting indeed, but the stuff I drink is 5.5% alcohol so best not to hit the bottle before I start work...

    1. They are mischievous looking...probably why we all got along.

  3. All I know about alpacas is that they are apparently very sweet-tempered and good natured creatures, not miserable bitey bastards like llamas.

    1. There are actually many estates here who have them as pets. These two were rather sweet. I didn't want to leave.

  5. I see one of them managed to get a haircut during lockdown...

Those pumpkins don't look real - they're quite stunning! What happens to them all? Do they get eaten, or made into boats or something?

    1. They usually sell out. But are very slow this year. Most of these can be eaten in recipes, or can be used for ornamental purposes. When I was there a couple of squirrel had gotten into a few and ate the pumpkin seeds. It was pretty comical.

The left over pumpkin stock will be shipped to you!

  12. This is off topic, but inquiring minds want to know: what did you have to do so that the management at Bertucci's would play an Abba song while you dined with Warrior Queen?

    1. WHAT!?!?!? Those two dinned today and listened to ABBA?!?!

    2. OMG! That really IS playing with fire!

Sings: "Kisses of fire burning, burning. I'm at the point of no returning" - one of their lesser known numbers [for those who don't recognise].

    3. It was ancient Chinese secret Todd!!!!!! I've learned that if she has sweets and liquor in front of her she can take ABBA. But don't try this alone at home Todd. No witnesses, get it?

"If you're all alone when the pretty birds have flown
Honey I'm still free, take a chance on me
Gonna do my very best and it ain't no lie
If you put me to the test, if you let me try"

Raybread- it was almost too funny after this weeks events here and that dedicated post to her that an ABBA song came on.

    4. @agnes - yes, the "ladies who lunch" had lunch. we are both unemployed right now. masks were worn, temps were taken, social distancing was practiced.

@raybeard - I don't know what song was played; I did not recognize it. it was not one of ABBA's top 40 hits though, like "dancing queen".

    5. OH So glad you two could meet. I worry about our Mistress being alone a lot of the time. Glad to hear a good time was had. William and I have not been out "in" a place yet, with exemption to eating al fresco. We've been worried to and now with rate and death exploding I think it's back to take out again for us. I told him we should move to Slaughter. It's very small rural beach town and we haven't see another person in over a week, since out last drive in Rehoboth or Bethany beach.

  22. We could all use a fairytale ending right now! And, oh those alpacas. How could anyone not fall in love?

    ReplyDelete
  23. The alpacas are so cute. However, I’d watch your intake of the cider. The natural sugar content without your body having to digest the fruit (& fiber) could make it easier to see your waist 🙃

  24. Pumpkins are fine, but with all of that there has to be a farm boy around there someplace.

Their amazing hair styles is evidence of that.

  27. This post made me melt. Those pictures are so nice. And I think animals gravitate to you, I swear. I have several neighbors here that have Alpacas to keep lone sheep or goats company. They are overall pretty friendly animals, very curious... and very seldom get nasty. I won't buy anything with Alpaca wool though. I have seen to many horrifying videos how they are treated to get the wool. Humans appall me when it comes to treatment of animals. I can see why you have issues with humans.

    1. I can only imagine what they go thought. I saw a disturbing video once... and wanted to strike down the men doing it. Humans need more punishment to put them in place. Were ignorant and need to have way more regard to animals and the planet.

  28. I touched one once and it's one of the softest animals I've ever touched in my life.

And those pumpkins are glorious! I too wonder what they will do with them all if they don't sell. Are they for baking?

  31. I don't have to go anywhere ever again, dear. I'll just check out your blog on a daily basis and travel with you! Oh, the places you go, the things you have seen. I love all the photos. Seriously... makes my day every time you go one one of your excursions. You make us all feel apart of life. Oh, be careful around those alpacas... they like to spit on you. Normally... something I don't mind. I mean I love it when they're animals (if you know what I mean)... but not when they really ARE animals. Kizzes.
