THE GOOD EARTH

One of the most important occasions for Earth, Earth Day is observed on April 22 around the world every year to support environmental protection. The day is dedicated to key activities such as raising awareness about the environment and its advocacy. Again, how ironic with the current state of things, the one good thing coming out of it is the positive affects it's having on the environment. But even with the pandemic, we can surely do our bit while staying at home. I live but a hop ,skip and jump, from the Pearl Buck House, so hence our post title today, so for the good Earth, your Mistress gives some suggestions while I share some pictures from my latest walk from the lake with Buster. I'm truly lucky to have this place in my backyard practically. It's so calming to see the wildlife and scenery.

Plant a tree, or some seeds or flowers. If you have seeds with you in your house, you can place them in your garden and water them daily. Trees produce oxygen which is essential for both humans and wildlife to survive. Or plant some flowers , or throw some wild flowers seeds in a grassy hill or bare dirt spot. Plant some window boxes. Flowers will attract and help the honey bees. Potter in the garden.

Fill your bird feeders and put some fresh water in your bird baths. Or start a bird arboretum with feeders and a bath. Birds love a little fresh water source.

Recycling is a small way to make big impact on the environment. So recycle your paper, cardboard, plastic and aluminum if it is able to be. Or if your out walking and have gloves on,  pick up any litter lying about.

When you go the stores,  try to use market baskets or re-useable bags if you can.

Speak up and share. Blog or go online and share your views or a beautiful picture on any of your social medias, to get the point out there, or just share a part of nature you like.
The easiest thing is, since were home...turn off all  lights and  electronics, and if it's nice, why not go for a nice walk, or sit outside with a drink and just enjoy nature, feel the sun and breeze, listen to the birds and enjoy the air. We already have masks, so that will even help with allergies. If weather permits of course. But also remember to turn off things in the house when your not in the room or house,  and save energy.
Any plans of importance on your list today to celebrate?

  1. This has to be one of my favourite posts. It really resonates with me. Thankyou.
Today I shall be planting French beans, butternut squash and sweetcorn seeds.

I have already walked my dog, filled the bird feeders and swept the patio.
It's another sunny day here but with a cold easterly wind.

Mother earth will take the time we are in lockdown as the ideal moment to replenish herself.
    Take care, everyone. X

  2. Not allowed to go out for a walk, but will take out some recycling to get out of the house briefly. Then to the terrace to make the plants and myself happy.

    1. Walking and exercise is permitted, but no loitering or grouping together. The lake is only accessible to the few who live here, and around it. All parking lots are closed to keep other residents in the area, currently out. When I go for walks and runs, I have yet see more then 10 people. It is very quiet and peaceful. And the wildlife is venturing much further out.

  3. I have loved seeing on the news how sea life has come closer to shore since the global quarantine. I saw a video of jellyfish swimming in the canals of Venice. The oceans are cleaner and more blue.

    1. I saw that jellyfish, that was amazing. It will sadden me partially when this is over and we fall back into old habits. All the positive affects will disappear right quick I fear.

  4. We woke up to deer in the backyard this morning. I wanted to take pictures but didn't want to frighten them, so we sat in the sunroom, drank some coffee and watched ... all of us, me, Carlos, Tuxedo, MaxGoldberg, Consuelo, and Ozzo, all watching them saunter through the yard.
    So peaceful.

  8. So pretty!
You’re lucky to have that chunk of wildlife next to your house. I live in a suburb and yet, last weekend I saw a fox running in a thicket during my daily walk. There’s a little creek near and I saw a little fox darting around.
And I think I’m going to plant a tree this spring. I’m going to look for a local species so it is in harmony with the trees that grow naturally around here.
We need to pay attention to the environment because an ecological catastrophe could take us by surprise. Just like COVID-19 did.

    XoXo

    1. I am fond of the lake Sixpense. It's just over 6 miles around. Takes about an hour and half to walk it..45 minutes if I run. Right now, it's sooooo quiet there. It's heaven

  13. Your effort is truly commendable! I loved this post too...the pictures are so pretty and calming..you can hear the quite. It's pretty sad while focusing on the needs of our modern lifestyle we have forgotten the importance and value of tree plantation, and taking care of the Earth. From streets to parks, playgrounds and backyards, planting an appropriate number of trees can create an aesthetically pleasing environment. So whether it's earth day or not, lets plant one today and at least once every week! Happy Earth Day to you Maddie

  14. The government could use more people like you with your love of the plant. That's the problem not enough care. This post was so pretty and I too love the pictures of the crane and deer. Must be a great place to walk. If I feel better I plan to get my window boxes in order.

  16. I'm going to put you on a spot here. Can you tell me if that's a Canard or a Yellow Bellied Sap Sucker?....

While you're thinking up your answer, thanks for the pics! Nature Rocks!

    1. Are you talking about the large group of water fowl? They are Mergansers. Yellow Bellied Sap Suckers are in the woodpecker family. The other bird in this post is a heron and a bald eagle. I have no idea what a Canard is.

It was a rather chilly walk today. Sunny but chilly.

  17. I'm going for a nature walk. I have already made plans to help moma nature. I found a bunch of baby spruce trees growing in a field. They normally would be killed from crop activities but I'm going to replant them and give them to any neighbors who wants a little baby tree.

  21. You’re very fortunate to have such a beautiful area around you. I used to love to ride ky bike along the river out here. I’ve definitely got to get my ass in gear and get the bike ready. It’s been a couple years since I’ve ridden. No excuses this year.
