SEEN IN NEW HOPE

It was good being back in New Hope over the weekend. It never ceases to amaze me how popular this place is, especially for three seasons of the year. For a town over 300 years old, it certainly is colorful and vibrant. Since being put on the map the night George Washington lodged there over night before crossing the Delaware River, then destroyed the ferry so the British Army couldn't follow him, it has been full of colorful characters ever since. New Hope has a very colorful history and interesting history, and architecture for a small river town, and has a big reputation for it's very good, fine food and proper bars, live entertainment, famous antique shops and centers, eclectic boutiques, art galleries, adult shops and tattoo parlors, and its long history and haven for the LGBTQ, drag, artist circles and witchcraft communities. This visit the town grande dame Pumpkin informed me that Tina Fey and Leonardo Di Caparo were seen on the streets, and GiGi Hadid just bought a home there. I always enjoyed my 24 years living there and will most likely return there for another few chapters. Seen in New Hope this visit.

Love Saves the Day...Amy Winehouse inspo!
Brunch at the V-Spot. No meat, eggs...everything on the menu is made plant based and it was soooooo surprisingly good.

Cocks for all, in various sizes for all!

Delish app of Avocado Deviled eggs from Under the Moon.

Look at the gams on his gent!!!!

Even Sasquatch was seen in New Hope and apparently gay!

Some of the various homes right in New Hope. No cookie cutter. I have always loved the diversity in the styles.
I have long told friends, if I could have one house , anywhere, the above house would be it! I have long loved this bungalow sized home. And I wouldn't change a thing. It's so charming.
Our cock-a-tails one afternoon

Some pool time at the hotel
Tall glass of water our waiter was!

One of my favorite shops in Lambertville, Zinc. I love their selection of accessories, candle and home furnishings.

And I am thrilled and happy to introduce you all to my future ex husband.....

Just look at him reading, no doubt, one of my poetic text!!!
Ohhhh lala!

  1. Love it. I grew up in Yardley; we spent many days wandering around New Hope and Lambertville. Haven't been back now in a few years, so thanks for the tour!

    1. Thanks for commenting, Elle!!!! And Welcome! I just adore that town. My dear uncle grew up and his family lived in Yardley for years. Another lovely town in itself. I was talking to a lady at one of the establishments while we were enjoying our libations, and said she didn't know how anyone could move away from that area, and I told her it was a very hard decision. But New Hope will never not be part of my life.

  2. Love the cherries, of all things. I hate to break it to you hon, and I hope the picture is off, but your future ex-husband looks like JD Vance and Ron Desantis produced a kid while gallivanting on a tired sofa. Of course, my eyes are fighting an uphill battle to see.

    1. I loved those cherries too, hence the picture. They were in the Cherry Room of the V Spot where we ate. Me in a room callled the Cherry Room was funny in itself.

And that picture didn't do the man justice. He was very sexy.... and no guy liner or white go go boots. and I later learned from Argentina!!! I can't escape the grip of South Americans I swear!!!!!!!!

That man is scrumptious! Those two idiots you name only hope to be half as handsome as this gentleman.

    5. Mads, I prefer Jimmy Kimmel, but thanks.
Ms Agnes I'm well for me. I have a doctor appointment next week to see if I'm okay or just used to feeling run down and one-hundred and twenty. As for mister cutie, I still see a mixture of the slimeballs around the mouth area and a little about the eyes. They're blurry like everything else in my life so I could be mistaken. -

    6. I agree with Deedles. I’d like to see a better photo so I can understand the attraction.

Back in the day my gay unc would go to New Hope and hang out with friends at the Canal House Bar and Chez Odette.
He had the best of times at a college professors gay salons.
It was a nice escape from dear police captain Rizzo. :-)

    1. Ohhhhhhhhh Chez Odette!!!! That was still swinging when I move into the area. What a camp place and an excellent bar and brunch they had. It is where I saw the fabulous Dame Shirley Bassey once. They got some big names in there with their famous cabaret bar. Alas, a new gauche, modern structure is now in its place about 5 years ago, chic and too polished for New Hope, and caused a great riff with the locals. Not everyone needs to have New Jersey glam life in this charming town. the new owners are from NJ. They are also the same family that razed the infamous and legendary Raven Resort, a gay place since the 50's. But luckily the original Odette's building was lifted and moved to another part of town as the welcome center. But boy was that place a good time.

    2. I was heartbroken at Odettes being gone... and will not give patronage to the new place. Very well done I hand you and gave a nice ode to Odette Mrytle, with her portraits and snippets of her life, but this is not the place for this type of venue. Much to polished for this quaint and charming jewel of a town.

    3. Do this family have a habit of razing historic gay venues to the ground? Homophobia, perchance? Jx

    4. @Jon. Pigs the lot of them! And another wealthy guy from Nj bought the Logan Inn, another establishment in business since the late 1700's, razed half the original building, and add on and it's now a posh place. Nothing wrong with that but this in not the town for it. Rumors are swirling he has his eyes set another place to buy. The town council better wake the hell up and put a stop to this before they ruin the whole town and it's feel. And sadly, there are some Democrats on the board too. Time to vote out all those bastards on counsel me thinks I told friends.

  4. I have long enjoyed a nice sunny walk along the banks of the canal. The foliage and flowers are always beautiful and there is always lots of ducks and water fowl swimming in the water. Everyone can enjoy the town at their leisure. Highly recommend as it is beautiful in every season. And don't get me started on all the food! Never a bad meal yet. I have thought of moving from center city Philly to move to New Hope.

  5. LOVE IT ALL!!!! If I ever leave Ptown, I would move there in a heartbeat! We could be roomies!

  6. You KNOW New Hope is my favorite town. The picture make me happy and cry to see them. There are a multitude of dining and drinking options. One can enjoy a stroll along the canal or the river. The shops are varied, but all locally owned and nicely staffed with friendly keepers. Sidewalks can be kind of narrow at certain places, but this comes with historical towns. An enjoyable visit if this is how you would like to spend your day. I miss it terribly too. Loved all your pictures and it rarely changes. I know you were in your element. And I know that house you like. It is soooo you. I always liked it too.

    1. Pat, if you referring to the first picture, that is the canal and has been there since, well forever! The 58.9-mile-long Delaware Canal is part of this great network. Completed in 1832, it runs from Bristol to Easton, where it connects with the Lehigh Canal. The primary purpose of the canal was to transport anthracite coal from the northeastern Pennsylvania coal regions to the cities on the eastern seaboard. Railroads eventually put an end to its use with exception to mule and donkeys pulling supplies for small business to and fro. And they were still giving donkey and mule ride on the canal when I first moved there, but shortly after ended them, as it is rather cruel. But the town does have a rather very quaint and very old train and railroad station, The Witch's Hat Train Station, dating to it's opening in 1891 and still in use.

    2. I would love to read more about New Hope from your point on more of the town, if you get the time. This town fascinates me.

    3. Aha! Now that you say Canal, I can see the water under the greenery. Oooo... I'd love to see and hear about that train station!

  11. I love that I can be there to partake in this town from Brooklyn by under two hours.

And I too love that house you you would like to have. Different, small not too big, and simple style. Large homes are overrated and too much time.

  12. Loved the pins on man bun, as well as the old and new architect and the quirky shops and spots about town. Fabulous for a visit, I would think.

  13. I love the homes there!!!! Not boring or cookie cutter like here. And I wouldn't know what to start nibbling on first there, the deviled eggs, that cute hippies' legs or your new husband!!!!! It's all sinful! I love quirky town like this. Great post.

  14. Philly is so lucky to have this town as a good place for a days escape. I love Zinc too...so many cool and unusual things to be found and not the humdrum stuff. I have never seen The Meaning of Things. Is that new? I always love you travel days to New Hope, it gives me things to help plan what I want to do when I go there. Pretty pictures too.

  15. A charming town! I love all of those homes, but I think the one you like is also my favorite. Small, chic, understated and quaint. I love it. And thanks for the links from the restaurants. I clicked them. OMG, those are some great sounding menus. I'm hungry now! I informed my husband that New Hope is now on the bucket list for next summer.

    1. I hope some of the new builds don't happen. Otherwise, it's going to change the whole dynamic and kill the charm of the town. Talking to some locals, they already think it's too late. And you'd think having some democratic on the counsel would help, and they have been just as bad. If I was living there still, I'd vote them all out.

  21. Lovely!
You see, this is what the suburbs killed: a quaint, picturesque, unique place to live. When the hordes left the cities to entrench themselves in their cookie-cutters they condemned many places like this to languish and die. Can't understand how people would prefer their gated communities to something like this.
And that tall glass of water does have fab shoulders. I could put something on them..

    XOXO
