I saw him perform several times in Los Angeles. Most memorable was The Sleeping Beauty ballet at the (old) Shrine Auditorium. We had front row seats!

    talented temperamental danseur

This photo is from a series by Richard Avedon taken in 1961. Nureyev had the ability to will his penis to full erection without touching it as the photo series revealed.

I once read in bioautography of him, he was famously proud of his large cock size, and the tight costumes he insisted on wearing did everything to accentuate it. Nureyev routinely invited stagehands and others into his dressing room while naked, staring them down, and often requested being masturbated. Souter’s memoir has a vivid account of just such a moment. The dancer oozed raw sex, and didn't hide this fact.

He scandalized the Vaganova ballet academy and the Kirov with his insistence on wearing his tights without the modesty brief worn under them by the other male ballet dancers. A Russian ballerina once stated he was like a sexual animal on stage and attracted everyone’s notice much to the chagrin of the Kirov.

    Flamboyant, Charismatic, Sexual.
Those are the words that come to mind for me.

Rudolf Nureyev was one of the world's greatest ballet dancers ever. He transformed the role of the male dancer from supporting the ballerina to being a star in his own right. His jumps were astounding.

    Premier ballet dancer
I saw Nureyev perform in 1979
with the Joffrey Ballet at the Mark Hellinger theater in NYC. They performed a program dedicated to Diaghilev and Nijinsky, it was sublime.
Today it seems ballet is not what it was, the popularity that Nureyev brought to it is not there. And the AIDS that took him and a generation of male ballet dancers has left its profound impact.

    1. Thanks for chiming in Rex! What a treat to see him. I'm jealous. I never got into ballet as much but friends of mine that are big goers I believe concur with your statement ballet is not the same. To my knowledge he's still considered the world's best ballet dancer.
