Another lovely weekend, if not a damp one. Rain yesterday with more today and some possible snow showers. I spent some time with good friend, the Dame doing some antiquing and thrifting. And the rest of the day and Sunday was spent cooking and watching olds movies. Today's mood board shows two interests of mine... outwear and another architecture style...Rococo...probably a favorite of mine next too Art Nouveau and Beaux- Arts...and Neo Classical and Post Modern. I have always been drawn and seduced by Art Nouveau and Rococo. They were always my favorite to learn in History of Art and Architecture classes in design school, as say opposed to the Colonial. The style is one reason Philadelphia's City Hall is my favorites buildings in all of Philadelphia. I have never seen a more elegant city hall building in any other city. Rococo was an exceptionally ornamental and theatrical style of architecture, art and decoration which combines asymmetry, scrolling, curves, gilding white and pastel colors, sculpted molding and tromp-l'oeil frescoes to create surprise and delight and the illusion of motion and drama. Rococo is often described as the final expression of the Baroque movement. And one sadly we could never see now, since everything is produced so fast anymore, and workmanship not near the talent it takes anymore. Of course, my other love is for outwear. I'm a huge whore for a jacket or coat...and must really stop. I have upwards now of about 25 coats. Opps, make that 26, I found another this weekend thrifting...hopeless...complete hopeless.
That first hat is a doozy!
ReplyDeleteI, too, love Rococo style; I love the ornate, almost cake icing look to it.
And, I could be wrong, but is that the actual Rococo in his briefs???
He seems to have very nice scrolling line and a nice curves!
DeleteThe outerwear? So very 60's.
ReplyDeleteSo beautiful and ornate. Go ahead and look for Jacket #27. You should have the things you love.
ReplyDeleteLove,
Janie
Your a bad influence Janie!!!!
DeleteRococo is a step beyond Baroque. It combines wonderfully with art nouveau, because it too is very ornate and refined. But I must say that even Neoclassicism has its charm.
ReplyDeleteI agree, X.
DeleteTrue. All too true. Workmanship is not as it used to be. Love me the Art Nouveau. Never been much on clothes of any kind. But you knew that. 😁 Pat Lark
ReplyDeleteWhile I have no problem being naked and wearing skimpy clothes, I'd have no problem wearing Rococo or neoclassical clothing. I sometimes think I've been left behind for another time.
DeleteLove the Rococo. We had a 1920 bungalow with Rococo sconces original throughout the house. Loved it!
ReplyDeletejimmy
I think a little Rococo bungalow would be a beautiful sight!!! Find me one and I just might move in to Wilton Manors! What am I thinking? That governor and republicans would give me a coronary.
DeleteNice mood
ReplyDeleteI love that first bay window and the ladies' outfits. Not so keen on pleached trees.
ReplyDeleteI've always loved those style of bay windows whenever I see older homes in San Fran. Now I know where they came from.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful mood board. This is just how I picture the Casa de Borghese.
ReplyDeleteLotsa very neat stuff!
ReplyDeleteTundra Bunny here... Rococo architecture reminds me of western European cities of the 19th Century, lovely to look at, but a little goes a long way too. The coat fashions are interesting -- particularly from the 1960's -- the first white one reminds me of a furry tampon, LOL!
ReplyDeleteA few buildings would be nice....but a whole city block of Rococo would be a lot. And thank heavens I didn't buy that first white coat!!!!!
DeleteRococo is certainly an uber-camp style of art and architecture - "if a thing's worth doing, it's worth over-doing" is probably the best way to sum it up - but even I wouldn't be able to spend much time in such surroundings as the Amalienburg Spiegelsaal or the Kaisersaal of Würzburg Residence without getting a migraine.
ReplyDeleteSpeaking of camp... paying its due respects to the Rococo craze for chinoiserie, albeit around a century later - and most certainly designed as a retort to the neo-classical lines of the "Empire Style" under Napoleon - is a place you really should visit next time you're in the UK, the fabulously OTT Brighton Pavilion. See here, here and here. Jx.
Oh yes...I'm a big fan of the Empire style too Jon. I do need to get back to London for a nice extended time in the future to see things proper. I'll be sure to check out those links dear. Thanks you!
DeleteThe links are only to photos, dear. Jx
DeleteYes I saw them!!!!! I need to see this someday. That music room is insane...the whole place is too much, yet, some reason still beautiful. Almost like those camp cult movies...so bad their good.
DeleteI beautiful installment. It makes me happy and sad with the architecture. It's so pretty and interesting to look at, but also makes me sad as the quality and craftsmanship is no longer around. Even the building we see now are up in a year and most are rather boring and snooze fests. The same could be said of fashion. We are much to lax with style and taste anymore. I would so wear any of those winter ensembles!
ReplyDeleteAnd worry not....I'm a coat and jacket horse too.
I couldn't agree more with you on our City Hall. It, after all these years, it still takes me breath away. I too love Rococo. I don't see much of it in the states. Will the white briefs and cable knit sweater be the new winter trend? I wouldn't mind it!!! I was thrifting this weekend too.
ReplyDeleteYour mood boards are generally. But this one is especially beautiful and fun. I love Rococo but it is rare to see it here. But any of the coats would be welcome here.
ReplyDeleteI love thrift store and yard sale.
ReplyDeleteCoffee is on and stay safe
Love this mood board!
ReplyDeleteRococo when used in accents if fab. Like frosting on a beautiful cake. I love how you juxtaposed with those fab mod numbers. Flawless.
XOXO
I too love rococo, and Rocoquito in his outerwear. I also regularly find myself looking at winter coats. I have two that spend most of their time in the closet. Definitely no need for more, no matter how much I like them.
