Not Pearly and I.
This had to be a first for me to be in Ptown this time of year. The seashore isn't the first thing that I generally think about in the autumn and the winter. But in these times, there has certainly been all kinds of firsts. The shore is for sun, sand and hot and lazy fun filled days, barley clothed, right? This was a impromptu trip for the most part offered up by the dear Pearly Gates, and even though the summer frivolity and shenanigans were gone, there was still fun to be had and lazy days, and must admit, it was great with out the crowds, but trust me, I still found trouble, or does it find me..., to the dismay of Pearly. Provincetown starts to slow down for the autumn and winter, many shops and eateries were already closing up, or just opened on weekends, with very few places opened all week. Off season gives one a more local experience, and then there is the clamming, where town guest can dig for your favorite bivalves. I didn't clam. Do I look like a guy that beats laundry on rocks? I must admit it was a great time and walking down the chilly streets of the town we know today, I am stuck by the beauty of this place I hadn't seen before. I also forget that while Plymouth gets most of the attention at Thanksgiving, it was the tip of Cape Cod that the Pilgrims first touched down in Provincetown. It was a swell trip, Pearly even took me out to see Race Cove one day, and other days I busied myself while she worked. Over all I would go back again in the autumn in a minute...but Ill pass on the winter...unless I got me a big ole man to keep me warm by a hot fire. Some of the snaps from this trip.
A familiar town site, Pilgrim Tower. The string lights that hang down from the top were going up for Christmas when I was there.
This church has been turned into a home. I would love to see the inside.
I had a chance to stock up on my French Feelings.
If your an American Horror Story fan, you may recognize this house from the current season as the home of Harry and his family, where they plan to live for the winter as Harry writes a pilot. And it ends very badly for most involved. I searched for Finn but nothing. Maybe he was down at the dick dock.
Race Cove was beautiful and offered many photo moments.
Another fire pit night!!!
Pearly's door! I love that yellow.
Gratuitous Dick Dock shot. And to no avail, no Finn Whitrock again...but that's not to say I didn't take in the dock at night again, just to see if he might have showed up.
On the long drive home and before I got off the cape, I couldn't resist this little roadside general store...had a nice lunch and bought some excellent cider to bring home, and some of those old timey, maple sugar candies for a good friend. I wonder, is there a job one can get to be paid to just travel and report??? If so where do I apply?
I sometimes really like a tourist-y spot better in the off-season.
ReplyDeleteAnd Finn at the Dick Dock? Oh, a boy can dream!
And there was a few dicks at the dock, just not Finn's.
DeleteThat main street looks so familiar... was the movie, "Witches of Eastwick" filmed in Ptown? I wouldn't be surprised if "Under the Boardwalk" wasn't also inspired there, LOL!
ReplyDeleteThat would make sense Tundra, since most of these seaside towns look the same... but a lot of the movie was filmed in Little Compton, Rhode Island.
DeleteGood day, do you know who the star is in your top photo with the turkey? It looks like a young Vivian Vance?
ReplyDeleteI believe many think it's Vivian Vance, but it's actually Una Merkel. It's a hoot of a picture isn't it??
DeleteAll so beautifully quaint! I have to ask, however, why there is a Nando's logo in the middle of the road (pic #11)? Jx
ReplyDeleteI have no idea what the significance is and didn't even notice what the logo was.
DeleteEverything was looking nice, peaceful, especially the house that used to be a church. The kind of place to tour, detox from the world in. That is until you got to Harry’s house. Now all I can think of are the flesh phantoms not showing up in your photos, but sure to be somewhere around.
ReplyDeleteMuch like New Hope, it does have a feeling or "presence" to the town I have always though. And any town that is pretty quiet, give a bit of a eerie feel I think.
DeleteI could mostly definitely live there I think, I love the feeling and look of the homes there. Love the sea gulls picture, but that had to be cold there? I laughed at the opening picture, lol!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful pictures!!! PTOWN is the bomb! But with the line " but trust me, I still found trouble, or does it find me..." we're going to need more details!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteI never kiss and tell.
DeleteI loved this post and that little roadside general store! My husband and I went to Ptown years ago...I don't remember much but the Pilgrim Tower brought back some memories. Love the beach and harbor shots.
ReplyDeletetravel? wouldn't you rather a job on your back?
ReplyDeletepoor pearl. i hope she didn't have to witness any debauchery or legs up.
I thought he already did make a living on his back???
DeleteBitches.
Delete??? No picture of the rock?
ReplyDeleteAnd no pictures of you modeling any of your French Feelings???? The time away looks pretty amazing. I enjoy Ptown when im there and don't want to leave....one of the last gay utopia of sorts.
ReplyDeleteEven as a kid I loved the Cape in winter.
ReplyDeleteI have to tend to agree Norma.
DeleteWith the people missing, I almost didn't recognize the place compared to prior photos. It looks lovely.
ReplyDeleteHi, I really enjoyed reading your post, and hope to read more. thank you so much for sharing this informative blog.

All great photos. Great memories of Ptown and the Cape for me. A good friend had a house in Brewster that we used to visit regularly when we lived in Connecticut.
ReplyDeleteAnd that billboard. Had you gone to Ptown a bit later this year, you could have been there on the anniversary of your very first visit!
Mitchell!!!!! How ever did you know my real age???? But I long got rid of the pilgrims garb.
DeleteOhhh I do recognize the house! I just finished AHS.
ReplyDeleteAnd I love a tourist town in the winter. It's such a peaceful vibe. Lovely photos.
I would also like to see what they did with that church (they are giving it a much better use now!) And the dick dock? Ohhhh
XOXO
You should go for it cutie cakes.
DeleteAs pretty as those pictures are I can tell it's cold there...I can feel it. I love the ones with the seasgulls...you seem to find the birds everywhere you go. And I have totally forgotten that the pilgrims landed in Provincetown first. Had I watched the other Peanuts Autumn cartoon more I'd know that.
ReplyDeleteI didn't recognize the dick dock empty.
ReplyDeleteLove your lighthouse captures! Gorgeous! But I too want to hear about the trouble you found, or found you. A get away is always nice isn't it?
ReplyDeleteI adore Provincetown...its been years. We used to have very good friends who lived there and we stayed with. It's nice to see the town has relatively not changed much which is nice. I love the homes there and gulls and harbor pictures i enjoyed.
ReplyDeletePtown seems to be one of those town that always looks pretty so matter the time of year. I enjoyed these, even though I can sense the cold. I too love that yellow door on Pearl's house. very cheery.
ReplyDeleteI have always adored Ptown. Just about the happiest place there is, and each season gives one a different vibe so it's never the same visit. You got some real nice pictures.
ReplyDeleteI love those houses their. And cold or not, the beach always provides some kind of solitude.
ReplyDeleteNow If you need help trying your new French feeling on I'm can lend a hand.
I haven't been to Ptown in years, and nice to see it still has it's charm. It's just as I remember.
ReplyDeleteLove the shot you got with the boat sin dry dock.
I have never been but I have long heard it's a fun little place, never boring I was told. Great Small Coastal Town by the looks of it.
