This Pig Went to Tabora

I can't help myself. I just love a good market to go to, don't you? The Mistress uses multiple resources for our food shopping needs. Depending on what I need I use Whole Foods, Acme, Genuardi's, Wegmens, Trader Joe's or the farmers market. I only get certain things at certain places. But when it comes to Tabora Farms- everything they have is delish, fresh, and your bound to find something new in the flavor department to tickle your tongue.

Tabora Farms has diversified from just a fruit and vegetable stand over the years by first putting in a bakery with Linzer tortes, buttery Danish and focaccia with asiago cheese, and vegetables, and selling their own preserved fruits in the form of jams, jellies, conserves, fruit butters and the like. Then they started to do hot and cold takeaway foods such as crab cakes, quinoa salad, roasted vegetables and other entrees and sides. We often get the take away food, all prepared fresh daily and it's all made with organic ingredients, so everything tastes so fresh.

We were just there to get my dear old ma some pastry when she watch Buster for us one weekend. I left with a box of scrumptious pastries. Some almond crescent, apple sticks, maple and streusel Danishes. I tried not to stuff one immediately in my mouth when I got to the car, licking the delicious, sticky residue off my fingers while trying not to touch anything, or myself! Whoever they have in their bakery is fabulous! Keep up the good work and I’ll be back!

Ice cream is a new thing for Tabora in the last few years and their flavors are distinctly interesting. Using the typical fruit and nut combos, they make rich, delectable concoctions, but it is the odd and unexpected flavors that draw me in. Rosemary, with a slight pink blush and not at all woody or too menthol, it had great mouth feel and a level of flavor that not only touched the tongue, but speed through the factory senses as with a swoosh of fragrance that felt like it was from the center of the herb garden. I took my friend J there when he visited. Lavender ice cream has a very pale color of its namesake and is a fine flavor that is not at all perfume-like as anticipated. And when there on the weekend there is often many a hot daddy walking around getting his provisions for the upcoming week. Makes getting up early on the weekends worth the trip. So if you live in the area take a ride and visit Tabora Farms and see for yourself, their diverse product line, handmade toilette's and take away items that taste like a meal that’s been made close to home. Tootles!

  8. When I visit other cities, I like to go to the places where the locals go. Sometimes they might be off the beaten path or not in an ideal neighborhood but, they are usually where I have the best, most authentic experiences. I love markets also for the food. Why weren't we taken there?

  9. What a cute place to go. You really have the best of both world's near you. The country and the city! I love the fresh things you can get at a market over the big chains. I stop everyday on my way home for dinner ingredients.
