LITTLE FOXES

The vixen with one of her pups. Im getting closer.

It's funny how things can work out. Yesterday I was at the ASPCA for volunteering, for most the morning. A black lab mix of some sort came to them from another shelter that was at a lost what to do for him. He was rescued from a terrible hell from it's owner. I had seen him come in, and asked the one vet what was all over the dog...looked like thistles. Turned out the dog had ticks and was left unattended to for a considerate amount of time, to the point where the poor thing was nothing but a vessel for the feeding ticks to drain...the ticks were covered over him so bad, you couldn't even see most of the face and ears and other parts of the body. And I certainly have never seen ticks so big. Luckily they had some kind of drug that can paralyze the ticks to fall off. But the blood loss and the malnutrition was awful. They do give him a good report as today he was already eating and the supplements they gave him are already working. I hid and held back anger and tears when I saw him...but once left,  I did have a good cry in the car. And people wonder why I hate humans. I would love to go cut the hands off his owner. Once home I took a cold beer and sat a spell in the afternoon heat and was reward with the little foxes making a ruckus in the woods. I've since named the kits, Crawford, Hayworth, and  Davis...all wily foxes from Hollywood. For all I know they may be all males. It was almost as if nature knew I needed to pick me up.

It worked too.

    1. Aren't you sweet. I am still proud I haven't come home yet with 10 dogs. I may yet end up like Will Graham from Hannibal.

  3. I can see how you could be sad and anger over the story of the poor dog. But then how the day turned out. They are beyond cute playing like that. That is amazing. 💖💖💖

  4. ...very moving story....unbelievable how some people act.....makes it so much better knowing that there are people like you out there to make things right! Video is just so adorable...as are the names you picked out!

  5. I hand it to you to do that volunteering. I would be a mess. The story alone breaks your heart...but your little pups must have known you need a pick me up. They are just to cute for words. I love love to see them up close. The little aggressive one there must be Crawford? When William is in from the beach I must show him.

  6. Love the foxes! So adorable.

And I think people who abuse pets are the lowest of low and there should be fines and jail for those motherf%ers.

  7. I don't know how you managed to hold out on tears until you got to the car. I started bawling as soon as I read "ticks"! I've never understood the inhumane treatment of animals.
As for the foxes, so sweet! The names are also unisex sort of. Using the last names they work for males, shifting to the first names, female. All bases covered.
You have a beautiful, warm heart, Mads. I hate the shards that cut it. I'm going to hug my dogs now.

    1. Between those shits and the current state of things It's where I credit getting my "Maleficent side" of things. Some thoughts I've had are downright dark at times...but I can really sympathize with that character. I do have a heart....it's just not conditioned to love humans anymore. I definitely have a balance between good and evil.

  8. You are so lucky to have all this around you. I don't think I have ever seen a fox in nature let alone that close. So glad to hear the Lab will be ok too and I hope his owner suffers.

  9. Your volunteering for the ASPCA is awesome and inspiring. I cannot believe that story but I know it's true. Poor doggie. Glad he's recovering.
And the foxes! I think I've seen one wonder near the backyard here. There's a thicket in between houses and in the winter I saw him come and go in the snow. I think it's the only thing saving the plants in the backyard from being eaten by bunnies.

    XOXO

    1. I have yet see them catch a rabbit yet, but they will keep control over the mice population. They can find them even under inches of snow.

  10. I melted in a pile for sure. Thank goodness the dog will come through. And the foxes ended us up on a happy note too. I have no idea either how people can be so cruel to pets and hunt fox. This bunch seems very happy.

  11. I love the fox and their names. I swear....your going to have them in your lap soon!!!!

Thank goodness for these shelters and rescue people, and this dog got lucky. How much do you get to do at the ASPCA? And how often?

    1. When I applied you can work as many hours as you can give. Since Im off right now, I can give whatever they need. They call on Monday if they need me and I mostly walk a lot of dogs and socialize with them, and have helped with feedings and cage cleanings. I like animals and gets me out so it's a win win.

  12. You are the bravest person in the world, volunteering for the ASPCA. My heart could not take it. And that poor dog! If you still want to find the scoundrel and cut off their hands, shoot me a g-mail; I have a chainsaw and an anonymous looking car for our getaway. Still, how wonderful that the staff were willing to give a dog that badly off a chance, and to see that pay off. For me, that was the uplift. Pup gets better, hero vets cause positive change, Mistress Maddie is Handmaiden to Positive Change Gods, and sees cute foxes. You're all right, momma. You are tops in my book. Skaal.

  13. That owner deserves to be tied down and covered head to toe with ticks! That makes me so mad! I don't know how you manage to volunteer with these animals, but I'm so thankful for you and others like you who do that work! I would be a sobbing mess every day. Bless you.

    1. You nailed it. I think if in this country one commits a crime, you should be punished by the crime. If you kill someone, your killed in the same manner. So I think I like your method for this owner...though I'd still like the hands gone

  15. The Foxes are Adorable Noble Creatures and Smart! As for the Volunteer Work, it can tap the Emotional reservoir considerably. I've done work with neglected Animals and neglected Humans, including vulnerable Adults and Children who suffered Abuse and Neglect. If we didn't get angry there would be something as wrong with us as those who were the Abusers! Working at the D.A.'s Office, many of the Crimes are of coarse Violent and heinous, I was a Seasoned Employee and yet it still got to me and I was often given the High Profile Case Files to work, since you couldn't give them to a Novice or they'd quit or go to pieces... or both if they weren't ready yet to receive what Humans can do to other Sentient Beings. Extreme Animal Abuse Cases can go thru Superior Court, so not every Victim was Human. Alas, there are some Sick and Twisted people among us... in every Demographic on the Planet... it's a Human flaw that runs deeply in some people and the Study of why some are so defective and inclined is inconclusive.

    1. Very nice comment Dawn. It would be nice to see why the defectivness runs deep in some. But the fox were my saviors yesterday. It brings joy just watching them...and I wonder if they know how lucky they are to not knowing what's going on in the world like we do. I'd like to come back as a fox I think.

  16. There are many, MANY times when I hate humans, too. Some are not worthy of being with animals. I'm glad that the unfortunate dog is now in good hands. And those foxes are absolutely beautiful!!!

  17. My heart goes out to you and that poor dog. That is the second such story I have heard within a week. The boyfriend, this weekend, told me about another dog that had happened to. Now... to Little Foxes. Dear... did you name the Mama Tallulah? Because, she is the original Little Fox. I just love the story about her and Bette Davis dueling for the movie role and the night Davis came to see Tallulah on stage and Tallulah raging backstage screaming that bitch was not gonna steal her movie. Well, we know how it ended. One of my favorite Hollywood diva battles.

  21. A heart warming post all around. Nice outcome to a otherwise sad story and the foxes know there Mistress must have been sad. They sure are quite adorable. I wonder if the mother was there?

    1. The vixen often leaves to hunt I believe...and the little ones must instinctively know to stay in the area near their den.

  22. You are wonderful for volunteering for ASPCA. I don't think I could handle it if I saw an animal abused or mistreated.

As for the foxes... does Buster take an interest in them?

    ReplyDelete

    1. When I sit in that part of the courtyard, if Buster is with me, he never even seems to pay no mind to them...and if for some reason they would get very near...he thinks everyone is his friend. Otherwise he just lays there and observes.

  24. Oh my goodness. That poor dog. So glad they can help him to recover.
I don't know how you stand it. The cruelty. How anyone can let an animal suffer is beyond me.
You are a kind and beautiful soul, mistress.

Made my day to see the foxes again. Thank you.x

  25. Kudos Maddie for your volunteerism. You are such a kind soul under that brusk exterior. I’ll sharpen the hatchet for the former owner.

And the fixes are adorable. Seeing them frolic would lift even the coldest heart.
