DONKEYS ON THE TOWN

With the Democratic National Convention under way, as seen from Hillary's first appearance below with Philadelphia mayor Jim Kenney at our beautiful City Hall....

they aren't the only donkeys in town. The donkey has long been the mascot of the Democratic Party. I myself like elephants better, they are my favorite animal, but they are unfortunately not the chosen animal for the democrat's. All around town colorful fiberglass versions of the animal are greeting convention visitors, delegates, and politicians... just about everywhere you go in Philadelphia. Fifty-seven hand-painted donkeys, each representing a state, have been place all around town. In fact, the initiative, launched by the Philadelphia 2016 Host Committee, is dubbed "Donkeys Around Town. This project is a fun way to engage the delegates... and will enable them to connect with Philadelphians, all our wonderful history, and the local arts community, and also get people interested in signing up to vote, and to get visitors to tour the city and all the fabulous we have to offer. As luck would have it, I was in King Of Prussia working one day at another of our locations and met a friend for dinner in the city last week, so it gave me an excuse to get some pictures to share. This week though, I hear the city is down right crazy!!!! Pennsylvania's donkey is located in front of the delegation's hotel -- the Double Tree Hotel on South Broad Street.

Are you  visiting and want to find any of the other 55 donkeys? Well, there's an app for that! Just search for "scavify" in the App Store or Google Play. Or click Art Jawn to see all the state donkeys.

I just bet Deb from She Who Seeks, will love the bee
The donkeys will be on display through Labor Day. After that, the delegations can accept their respective donkeys or allow them to be auctioned off to the public, with proceeds split evenly among the artists who painted them.

The Maryland one has all the things we're known for. Colorful state flag, Oriole, Raven and blue crabs. I don't know what else they could have included. Thank you for giving us a look at them.

  4. I could never figure at why the democrats picked a donkey....shouldn't the Republicans be the jack asses? But these are all rather cool to see.

    1. Now.....not all republicans are evil. Here is Bucks County they are fiscally like republicans, but all other issues are democrat. Most here vote republican for local spots, and from state reps up democrat. Probably why the south east is hated by half the state.

  11. The donkeys are beautiful and very creative. When I lived in Odessa, TX there were hand-painted jackrabbits all over town. I loved them - - especially since they didn't represent anything political.

  16. I'd like to see Hillary ride a donkey. She doesn't look too heavy and I'm sure she'd look good in riding pants.

  17. Of course, the Cali one would have Hollywood on it. At least it doesn't have parched farm land on it. LOL!

  18. Ooooo...Ours is such a pretty bright blue! I'm watching, and thoroughly enjoying some of the speeches. There's some truth-stretching (as CNN has reported) but nowhere near the amount, nor stretched as thin, as the Repubs.
    Hugs, my mistress!!!
