SUNDAY WITH THE AVIATORS

I don't know about where your at, but the weather here this weekend was absolutely stunning. Upon getting up today, I had my usual morning coffee and tea biscuit. I'll be heading to brunch shortly with some friends and this will give me my chance to finally break out the white jeans....so you know summer is here now!!!!! Not to mention I getting ready for vacation.
So far today has been a flurry of activity....all coming by to see the Mistress. I just hope they don't care by the sight they saw inside the window of me running around with my bloomers on! If your a cat owner call them to attention.....
The Blue Jay have been here in numbers this spring...you should hear all the squawking. They tend to not feed from the sill, but this year have gotten very tame. You don't realize how big they are up close. They have quite a few young right now.

This cute little song miniature sparrow is here from morning till night I swear.
Most scatter about when Maleficent arrives..... new to the sill! She just showed up and has been staying. You may disagree, but she is rather stunning...those eyes....
The nuthatch is one of my favorites. The sound they make sounds like a mischievous laugh. They are like clowns you ask me.
The Red-Bellied Woodpecker. Nothing like hearing him at 5:45am pecking the hell on the gutter. All my neighbors comment on him pecking on the gutters too. She is feeding a baby currently.
Another noise maker. This juvenile cowbird is quite noisy also and he loves mingling with the other birds. He will often even come to the sill when I have the screen out.
To my surprise this spring, the Cardinals have been visiting very frequently. They are most of the time very skittish. I have been amazed how close to the window I can get.
Sweet little Black-Capped Chickadee. They too have young, and are they noisey as hell. And so small.
Probably my favorite is the Tufted Titmouse. This mother has two babies currently in the tree. I have seen her feeding them with seeds.
A Downey Woodpecker. She too has young ones right now. They usually stay safe in the tree right out the window.
Bonnie and Clyde....at this point, there pretty much regular guests.
Caught this Golden Finch in mid flight. I love how very vibrant they are this year.
One of my favorite birds is also the Grey Catbird, which is part of the Mockingbird family. They sing their hearts out all day, and will even mimic sounds of other birds. They are such a sweet bird. This is the first year I have seen them here. While we have them in the area, I have never seen them on the ground here. Caught this in the tree out the bedroom window.

Needless to say, it sounds like a bird arboretum all day around here. Now if only a had a peacock!

  1. No comments yet?? Did everybody go bird watching??

Those are fantastic photos of your feathered friends - the cardinal is spectacular. Unfortunately my three cats would make mincemeat out of them....

    I like white jeans!

    3. It's funny. When they don't imitate other birds songs, their normal call sounds like a cat sort of...hence the name? Not sure.

  8. I light of the yet again terrible news today, this was a very uplifting post today. I enjoyed seeing all the beautiful aviators, if only for a few minutes. Not that news isn't important, but your always a refreshing spot to get away from the world at times. And I thank you for that.

  14. Great photos and birds. When we lived in Connecticut, we had feeders everywhere, including one in the dining room window. Now we can't do that on our terrace (and not with our cats), but we don't have the same or such a large variety of birds anymore. Thanks for bringing back sweet memories.

    1. Thank you Mitchell. I could never have done this when I had my cat. Buster on the other hand will just sit and watch...then sleep. Or being a dog, gives me the look of "MORE BIRDS"

  17. What a variety! Had a friend with a house on Lake Tahoe. We used to sit on the deck, watch the crazies skiing in that ***cold*** water, and feed the Blue Jays. They got where they would come right up to us to get the peanuts.

  19. I have to say, you get some great pictures. We take for granted birds and animals in general. They must like what you have and trust you. That's a great connection to have. Love the cardinals and catbird and the woodpeckers are just bad ass.
