THE SIZZLE BEGINS

Well, is it me or did I seem gone forever??? You know me and summer go together like peanut butter and jelly, like fish to water, well, like me and gin!!!

It was glorious having my first vacation off, I must admit, but alas.... how I missed you all, my dear and sweet readers!!! No need to mention did any of you think to stop in to feed the fish and houseboys??? After leaving the Casa,I had a brief pit stop in Harrisburg at the Capital Street Duo's abode for my friends Russ's 50th birthday party, complete with magician.... before heading to Fire Island. It did not take me long to escape on Memorial Day to New York City to meet Preston.  No need for a passport or a flight. It only took a train ride to Sayville and a short ferry ride to reach our destination. I was immediately charmed by this place two years ago, and so happy to spend a few days more there. I hope this post will answer your questions and motivate you to put Fire Island on your bucket list while visiting New York.
The view out my bedroom  door!!!

Fire Island is a thin and long island facing Long Island, NY and the Atlantic Ocean.  Along the island, you will encounter several mostly gay, small villages.  There is a water taxi to go from one village to another, but you can also walk there through the beach, or the elaborate boardwalks then run everywhere. We were treated to stay as guests with one of Preston's friends who got a time share all summer. Being only a minute away from the beach was an ideal location. Not to far for me to stumble around drunk.  The only downside was probably the weather, a couple of grey days with the rain. You can walk everywhere though on the beach or wooden boardwalks as no cars are permitted on the island.  We also visited the village next door, Cherry Grove.

Once the Summer starts, Fire Island becomes very popular again and hosts some of the craziest parties.  The Pines is also know for its expensive real estate.  Some of the houses are enormous and magnificent. If I had the money...or a wealthy man... I would have a hard time choosing which one I like the most. This one was rather nice!
Another thing I adore about the island is the deer and how just how many there is. Still can't get used to seeing them in this environment. We even saw one day three actually in the ocean, but I didn't have my camera that day. Most will get very close, and a few will even feed from your hands.
Some lovely wildflowers growing in a grass verge.
I actually did spend a few days relaxing and even left a low tea to head back to the house to hear one of the live broadcast's of the Philly Orchestra's performance from Hamburg, contrary to rumor thinking I snuck back for a booty call.
Good music, a good read, ale and a view like this. What's to complain about I ask? Of course, don't let me fool you. I had plenty of sight seeing!!! Here is one day at high tea dance! I wanted to do a swan dive from the balcony into the sea of men...a long dream of mine, but Preston talked me out of it.
Some boys of summer!!! oH LA LA! I do believe the guy with the pinkish swim trunks was smuggling a whole fruit basket in there.

Our neighbors invited us for a waffle breakfast one day. But alas, I was feasting my eyes on the buns.
Speaking of Preston....he with his pussy hat! It's a wonder he wasn't hunted down in those suckers. It was bad enough I had to hear him purring at night.
Preston captured this picture of me in a deep conversation over some political talk I was having. Never wear cream shorts to a tea dance. There pink and red before you go. Some probably thought I was having my period.
And I never leave home without one pair of heels. At least.
One day at a party this queen shows up. Eponine was her name.  This queen showed up, acting like a queen, pranced in, tits out, booty shaking, in gold boots, shades, and a cheap ass crown, walking around with attitude like Cesri Lannister.
Of course I loved her. We talk world current events.
Another night we caught the lunacy of the lovable and hilarity of Dina Martina.
While there most of the time I was accosted by these three- relentlessly. Three Canadians. I called them my triple threat.
Joel Mick and Tony. I was a bit smitten with Joel and might have shared a kiss or two. Joel on the left hails from Thunder Bay Ontario. We did exchange digits and info, opps, sorry, I talking like these young kids these days with street talk. We promised to keep in touch. But these three were a hand full on the dance floor.
But all good things must end...and it was off the island and back to reality. For now. I already miss the sunsets there.
On my first day back to my fair hamlet, I had to meet the Capital Street Duo in Philly for the Wanamaker Organ Concert last Saturday, more later, and have been running since.

Looks like my social season is under way.

  11. And that's why I love you. You will talk to anyone no matter how butch or fem. Most gay guys annoy me because they don't associate with fem guys. What's the deal? I loved Eponine too!!!

What I realized in Fire Island is that it wasn’t about who you are, what you’re into, if your gay, straight, bi, trans, it didn’t matter, everyone was there to have a good time and meet some fun people. I made the mistake of drinking what I thought was called the “Pirates Punch” but then found out after ordering it all night that it was called a Planter’s Punch. Regardless, it was a full cup of three different rums with a splash of grapefruit and cherry juice.

It was a bad decision to say the least. Beautiful trip Mistress.

  20. I was trying to figure out why some of these pictures looked so familiar, especially the boardwalks. Then it hit me. They looked straight out of the movie Longtime Companion, one of my favorites. I'm mesmerized by them.

    1. Deedles...that is one of my top five favorite movies of all time! So well done and the scene where Bruce Davidson tells his partner to let go gets me every damn time. Come to the Casa and we'll have a sob fess with libations darling.

    2. Maddie, I gotta tell ya, there ain't enough libations in the universe to erase the mental picture of me ugly crying and blowing bubbles out of my nose! The whole last half of this movie does that to me.

      Delete
    3. LOL!!!! Ahhh the ugly cry....gotta love it. But I have to tell you, every time I'm in Fire Island I think of the movie. One day, Im going to drop shorts, and run butt ass naked into the ocean to the Tide is High like Billy Campbell did!!!!!!
