SPRING...ONE DAY ONLY

One day only for sure! Yesterday was a great day to get out. The Spring Queen made a two day appearance. It was sunny, balmy and almost 87 degrees yesterday, till a chilly turn came last night with high winds and temps back into the forties again today. Regardless I donned my tan jeans and sport coat to meet friends in New Hope for a great brunch at Martine's Riverhouse.
Martine's is a favorite haunt of mine  in New Hope along the banks of the Delaware River. They have great  seasonal American dishes , and I say pick one of their signature River House Cocktails.... while enjoying the beautiful view.
While I was waiting for friends, I started with three Mimosa's and enjoyed the weather. Felt great getting outdoors again.

Any wonder I love the place?
Good friend Doug and his hubby now, arrived and had martini's at the bar. Jerry is recently moved from Arizona.....I sure hope he doesn't regret the move weather wise. He did say the feeling, colorfulness of the town and it's charms are something he didn't get out there. Doug on the other hand bartends part time and is a painter. Next year he hope to have a few paintings in New Hope's, Naked New Hope, an exhibit of all nude paintings, sketches, sculpture and other medias.  He has asked me to sit for him nude. One of my friends asked would I do it? In the words of Blanche Devereaux  " But of course I am. This is my opportunity to be immortalized forever in a classic work of art."
I could listen to their stories all day. And then we made pigs of ourselves and I switched to Bloody Mary's.
Just another reason to love New Hope. One never knows who will be dinning in a establishment with you! I thought of dear John and had to take a picture of this cute diner.
Below us, off the terrace was a flurry of activity in the river.....seemed like everything but cock. Bunny probably had those tied up hidden somewhere.
Where ever I live, I love being near some form of water. With in minutes of my place is the Delaware River and I also have a huge lake I go to much of the time in the summer, Peace Valley to canoe. Of course the beach is not but a two and a half hour drive. Something calming about being near water. Afterwards, I snapped these pictures of the beautiful magnolia outside the Casa.
With our high winds last night and today, the blooms will be but all blown off soon damn it. Once home,  I had a wonderful surprise of this spectacular gift from the thoughtful Miss Lady Fingers. A beautiful hard bound bird coffee table book. I will enjoy looking and reading through this. A warm and huge thank you Miss Fingers!!!!
American Robin of Spring. Indeed.

water - sea or fresh. Today we drove home along our long

  6. DUCKS!!! I love ducks! I've been chased by geese and roosters (notice I didn't say cocks?) but a duck has never molested me.
Beautiful pictures, as usual. Love your outfit. Nude painting huh? Maybe you can be painted headless to preserve the mystery. I'm talking about the head that sits on your neck, I'm not totally nuts!

    3. Maddie, it pains me that you think I was the instigator of foul acting birds! I was a pleasant, nonthreatening child! How could I know that small horse sized geese were protective of their lake? And that rooster must've thought I had eggs in my grocery bag when he rushed out of his yard to attack me!
If it weren't for me falling in love thirty years ago with my best friend's blue streaked lory, I'd still be afraid of all birdkind.

Carebear, both sentiments are true. I just have more enthusiasm for one over the other. I'm not saying which, but I don't eat duck.

  14. Gorgeous shots of a beautiful day full of blossoms and birds and a stylish host! Beautiful and splendid captures! Thanks for sharing them. Love the magnolias and waterfowls.

We had ducks on the farm. Just wild ones that decided to live in our small brook and pond. Never ate a duck til I visited cousins in San Francisco and they took me to Chinatown for lunch. I thought it was chicken but Peking duck is really duck! I felt a bit guilty munching down on tasty duck. I didn't want to seem ungrateful or rude, so I ate that tasty, scrumptious duck with a steam bun and duck sauce.

  17. I adore Asian Magnolias, such a beautiful harbinger of Spring, and they've always seemed to do well here in San Francisco and were pretty much everywhere. A block without one was more the exception than the rule.

I just realized last spring, that they seem to have disappeared. No explanation, just gone. And then this year, I was on the lookout for them and, sure enough, I didn't see a single one. I'm baffled and disappointed.

    1. I do think the Asian Magnolia is also one of my favorites too. They never bloom long thought.

    2. My favourite flower at this time of year, too. However, as some wise person once said (actually about peonies, but it's the same principle): if blooms that magnificent were around all year, you'd get tired of them and their novelty would wear off...

I love the constant handover from one flush of flowers to the next, right through the season till we get to high summer - as Agnes below said, it's almost the turn of the lilacs! Jx
