A WOMAN NEEDS ROPES...

......and ropes of pearls.

Godspeed to one of our modern day, classy and accomplished First Ladies of recent times.

  1. She's been a hard-hearted person at time, though. Like right after the Hurricane in New Orleans and she saw the stadium full of people, and she made the snarky comment: "Why are they complaining? They have a roof over their heads." Or something to that effect. I can't mourn a person like that....

  2. The exact quote about the Katrina refugees was this. “And so many of the people in the [Houston Astrodome] here, you know, were underprivileged anyway, so this is working very well for them.” She also thought Pat Buchanan's "Make America First Again" speech was racial but not racist.

Yeah, I'm going to keep quiet with the platitudes on this one.

  4. I have mixed feelings about Barbara Bush. I always liked her as a down-to-earth woman who didn't dye her hair or get plastic surgery to "look young" but she did live her life serving the rise of modern American fascism too; we can't overlook that.

But bless her heart, she did produce the single best quotation about Bill Clinton's sexcapades in the White House:

“Clinton lied. A man might forget where he parks or where he lives, but he never forgets oral sex, no matter how bad it is.”

  5. I didn't love her, but didn't hate her either. I'd take her over that dragon lady Nancy Reagan. I always feel bad when a long together couple losses it's one half. The other always feels it....with a broken heart.

  6. In a time when abortion and homosexuality was a real hot bed, she took the platform to say both are personal matters and should be be involved in political matters

I liked her for that alone.

  7. She had just enough rope to hang herself with her outdated, privileged, and ignorant views on poverty and race in America.

I chuckled at her Hurricane Katrina comment, not because it was awful (it was!) or racist (kind of), but more because that's worldview her generation and class of people were raised to believe, and it colors all of their interactions and beliefs.

It boggles the mind just how out of touch with reality and really outdated and ignorant some people are in this day and age. But it happens.

  9. I do wish the Bush family a time of healing and great memories of their loved one. I respect their right to mourn, laugh, cry and reflect. But truth be known, they are not my favorite group of people. Two names that makes the hairs on the back of my neck stand on end : Trump and Bush. Oh, can't forget Regan; So three. But again even though they were deplorable in my opinion I wish them healing.

  11. I adored her as a person and lady, but must admit not as a first family. Although, I'd taken the first Bush over the second one. She was definitely a stately stern looking lady.

The world needs more ropes of pearls.

    1. Thank you Jon.

I know she was not everybody's cup of tea...and I by no means share many of her point of views, but as a woman she was strong, stately and didn't take shit.....and I can respect that.
