USUAL SUSPECTS

In from the garden

Well, I must admit, it still seems odd, with not having to get up at 4:30am everyday....my Joan Crawford routine out the window. But  since not working, I still tend to get up early...hard to break the body alarm clock. But even though I'm far from a morning person, I do like the quite time, taking my coffee leisurely, and it has allowed me to actually sit at my café set and enjoy the views. The birds have been eating more than I have seen! What pigs! This is the first spring I have gotten a slew of Blue Jays....a family of five. The little ones are noisy as hell and are in the tree out the kitchen window, now branching. Between them, the Cardinals, the Catbirds, and the Starlings I don't know who's the loudest. I do believe the parents are used to my presence now. They fly to the sill and take seed to the little ones.

Most of the birds I get all have babies currently, and my neighbors all think that I have single handily tripled the bird variety around here. Mistress Maddie #1 Fan stayed over last night, as we are heading to the Raven Resort for some splish- slpash time at the pool finally.  The weather is just beautiful ...., this is what I'm talking about!  But poor MM#1F couldn't take all the bird noise this morning. His exact words were " Ok ...it's 5:15am. It's like trying to sleep in a damn bird arboretum with a thousand birds."  The poor thing. I gave him  extra coffee, and the last pancake with some whipped cream. Meanwhile Buster Bolfig Borghese would rather enjoy his time away from windows.... and guard the pebble garden.
Off  to dip my fanny......tootles!

  1. Oh, what joy! When we lived in Connecticut, we attached a bird feeder to the outside of one of our dining room windows. I could have sat there for hours watching the action.

  2. That first pic with the flowers is gorgeous! Cute birdie. I don't think I've ever seen a Blue Jay that close before.

When I was a kid in California, the mockingbirds used to keep us awake at night. My father would go outside and shake them out of the trees.

    1. Blue Jay are bigger when you see them up close. I have too heard mockingbird are very noisy. I surprised they didn't flock your father.

  4. Lovely post Mistress! I can't believe how close those jays get and even feed off the sill. Amazing. The cardinals here amaze me how long and loud they chirp. Buster looks happy sunning.

  10. Your blue jay is just stunning! How lovely to sit sipping coffee early in the morning watching the birds.

I hope you'll be giving your square cuts an airing - or, perhaps, a watering - at the Raven pool?!

  11. Because of The Engineer's work our alarm goes off at 4.15am - so they can communicate with the East Coast. Now the plant is in a planned outage to change out stuff and he works very odd and long hours. But guess who still gets up at 4.15am? :-) Loves the pictures and Abby and Tar say 'heh!' to Buster

  12. Buster looks in fine fettle.

I used to be such the night owl, but, since meeting Carlos, who is more of a Day, I have become an early riser--though not quite 4:30AM--and also early to bed. But I do feel like I do and see more than I did as the Night Man.

  13. I am amazed at the number of different birds that come to your sill to feed. Beautiful flowers too, but Buster....relived summer is there by looks of it.

  14. It's great fun to watch birds and watch them raise their young. I've been able to watch various birds, and great horned owls from my windows--with a spotting scope, of course, but they won't get that close. Enjoy the day.

  15. What nice weekend it sound at the pool. Nice pictures! We had a jay's nest just off the porch during our first spring/summer in this house. Every time the parents came back for a feeding there would be a chorus of louds little birds squawking. Send pets to Buster.

  17. I don't know why Buster is cracking me up, but he looks thrilled. I always enjoy the bird pictures.... you have put them enough at ease to capture their image I'd say. They look very content!

Enjoy the sleeping in while you can.

  18. I wonder if I can talk my hubby into trading his sportcar hobby for a bird house/feeder hobby?

I'm totally in love with your little feathered friends. And Buster!

  19. A flock of penguins would be quieter, but your yard would smell of herring.

  20. MM#1F must learn to love the squawking - it means life is present and accounted for. :-)
