A DOOR INTO SPRING

Well , here it is almost Easter already. After all my complaining about leaving the confines of the Casa du Borghese during my winter cocooning, and coming to term with the Snow Queen leaving the throne, I am ready to welcome spring. The Lad got me out and about, and Daddy Warbucks got me outside last weekend, and I must admit it was nice to switch into my blues, lighter leathers and spring gauge sweaters. Time to leave the cashmere behind. I say that sad sort of...it's so damn snuggly and comfortable. But must admit, it was nice to throw up the windows and air out this gin infused joint. Around the grounds, two types of magnolia are blooming already as are some bluebells.
I picked some of the magnolia to bring in...and it only last two days before it wilts....just like some guys I know....
Of course I did my apothecary jars in the festive spring...time for eggs, nest, and rabbits.
This porcelain rabbit was my grandmothers. It's a Lefton. Do you remember these when you were little? I put him under this cloche in a nest.
The Easter postcard is a real one and has post mark of April 10 1908!

This weekend I'll be heading to the ancestral home, so feast your eyes... I made homemade challah bread and a batch of Hot Cross Buns for my ma. I am also making her some English Tea Biscuits too. Can you tell we HATE carbs here? We never give up anything for Lent around here. I thought of giving up meat, but well. Why? I'll just fall off the wagon.

Now speaking of buns...excuse me whilst I go bath and lounge for the night...and of course enjoy a lovely gin and tonic.

  5. What a mouth watering post. Feel free indeed to send over that great looking challah! As for the hot cross buns, it was a tradition with my mother every Good Friday to have them with tea. So I continue it. Oh yes...I do remember Lefton. My sister I believes has several of the chicks and ducks. The jars looks so fun this time. Loving your style.

  6. I was in Trader Joe’s looking for currants. No currants, but there were dried blueberries. Non-traditional, but I think it will be yummy! I really don’t want to wait for Good Friday now! I too love your style and the apothecary's looks so festive!

  8. Lovely post, you have my mouth watering for a few things! Magnolias are among one of my favorite flowering trees. I too have clipped some to bring in, but they never last more then three days. The prettiest trees never stay for long. The Lefton rabbit is adorable. I remember them well from when I was little. We had several chicks and baby ducks, have no idea what happened to them.

  9. I remember growing up with hot cross buns, they were wonderful. My Mother always snipped the top crisscross with scissors and it made a perfect trough for the powdered sugar icing. Nice to see the tradition continue. Your apothcarys are beautiful. Are they real nest?

    1. The little one is indeed a real nest as is the one the rabbit sits in. They are found on the ground, and the other is from the Dame.

  11. "it was nice to throw up the windows and air out this gin infused joint" - my grandmother used to say "let the stink of winter out" upon opening the house windows for spring.
