SNOWFALL
It's been a relaxing weekend, some baking of bread and biscuits, and we finally got a nice little snowfall. The first few pictures were taken last night before I turned into bed around 3:30am. I love snowfalls at night.
Today was just as pretty.
Nothing going in the gardens.
What weekends are for!!!! After the quick shoveling...I came in for a bucket of coffee and my homemade biscuits and sausage gravy! And after losing 15lbs I didn't feel a bit guilty either.
How dare you tempt me with your sausage gravy and biscuits when I not there! I love your biscuits, no pun intended. Quintessential winter post I'd say.
Lovely post! Yes....I'd say the garden is most definitely in hibernation now. Like you, I too think nothing pretty than a snow fall at night, when it calm and quiet. Your nighttime picture reflects quietness.
Snow looks pretty, but I hate it once I am anywhere outdoors!
"Sausage gravy and biscuits" is something completely alien to me, and to anyone in the UK, I imagine. I tried to look it up, but it would appear that what you call "biscuits" are more like what we would call "scones", and over here gravy is brown, not white - so I have no idea what that actually is in the photo... Jx
Jon, allow me to offer this for you. Yes, it may look foreign, but if you were hungry and needed a calorie dense meal for work, this would serve you right. Think of this as a classic bechamel sauce that serves as a milk gravy for pieces of browned ground sausage. Quite salty and peppery, poured over the split biscuits(usually baking powder biscuits) and served with fried eggs, it's a Southern Appalachian treat, created out of necessity after our Revolutionary War to use up hard biscuits and cheap ingredients for the gravy. It is easy to make, find the Ree Drummond recipe in my comment above for the gravy and find a baking powder biscuit recipe online. It is an acquired taste, I have friends and family that wrinkle up their nose at the mere mention of eating it. Always fun to try new food though.
Gorgeous pictures! I can't lie, I love winter. And that breakfast looks damn tasty. I love sausage gravy and biscuits! Never made homemade though.
ReplyDeleteAsriel, check Ree Drummond recipe for Sausage Gravy and if you like she has a good biscuit recipe, too.
