Wowser! I wonder if she’s the daughter of my mother’s friend Binadetta Spinelli (seriously). She LIVED for purple. Purple-flocked Christmas tree. Purple Cadillac. Purple-sprayed nativity scene. Even custom-ordered purple toilet paper in the late 1950s. And I think Binadetta Spinelli is a great drag name.

My mother’s side of the family was very staid and “appropriate”... nauseatingly appropriate. My mother had some friends who stepped out of line. My father’s sister’s friends ALL looked like drag queens.
