SNOW DAYS ARE BEST

I'll tell you this right now, the Snow Queen this year is not giving up here throne too soon to her on coming sister, of Spring. We here, as many in nearby states I'm sure, are getting yet another snowy Nor'easter. High winds, sleet and snow. 10-18" excepted. Needless to say it was yet another day off...but who's to complain? It only meant a morning of leisure in my underwear with a huge pancake and bacon breakfast. I do actually like the snow when it's fresh. After a day or two when it's dirty, and people trampled in it....it can go away. I captured this picture last night after dinner in New Hope when the storm started. The town was very peaceful.
Today was spent as I said in my undies and eating. My neighbor Deedi who broke her foot was in need of some staples from the store. I told her I had a quart of milk I just bought and some butter she was welcomed to. So I walked to her place to drop the things off. One the way someone had quite the sense of humor.
And her dog, Lucia wasn't having any of going out.
We shared a cup of coffee and she wanted to know the latest dirty gossip with the Mistress. As if! Upon leaving she gave me a lovely potted violet for making the trek. Upon getting back I spotted the fox, which I have since deemed, Wiley. It's not often you see him in the day time, but there he was by the mailboxes, as I fumbled with my phone to capture him. May be the closest I have got a picture yet. I wanted very badly to pet him, but I'm sure he would run. yet another great snow moment.

Once in I had yet another coffee and enjoyed some usual suspects.
Tufted Titmouse
Junco's. I love to hear their lovely song. My neighbor below, loves that I feed the birds. She said it's nice to hear bird songs in winter also.
Red Bellied Woodpecker
And then the cardinals. The female was cracking me up!
Her mate was on the other end of the sill.......
....he was embarrassed she was stretching to appear looking in the window!
Beautiful dove.
*graphic carnage ahead*
But then alas.....the first casualty I have witnessed at the Casa du Borghese. The Red Tailed Hawk returned and this time got a victim...a poor little red house sparrow.
I understand he has to eat too, but I then explained to him that the Mistress will not allow carnage at my feeders and sill. After he left, most of the birds returned...several jay and cardinals families. Then I was going to put some of my winter touches, like pine and berries, around the Casa away like in these apothecary's.
and put a few Easter decorations out.......
But I'm confused...is it winter or spring??? Easter is right around the corner and I don't have a thing up .....or have I made any Hot Crossed buns yet. So I just put the stuff away for now, but did make the Hot Crossed Buns.....while listening to classical music.

So there was that.

  1. That's an amazingly close shot of Wiley - he's very handsome! Do you think he was hoping to be thrown some scraps?
And your usual suspects are just as wonderful, too. I especially like the tufted titmouse and the curious cardinal. Even the murderously magnificent hawk - as you said: he has to eat too.

I'm somewhat disappointed not to see any snaps of your hot crossed buns. Or the baked goods!

    1. I was too quick with movement on my phone to get a more clear picture of the fox...but there it is. I almost wanted to give handouts, but fox have a very specific diet and nutrients they require, plus, they must fend on there own. But it was a fury of activity here today otherwise.

No shots of the hot crossed buns, I figured my display of lucky charms on Saturday was enough for the week dear.

  2. That cardinal certainly is embarrassed. Just look how red his face is! Love the snowperson.
That hawk is splendid. I am kind of partial to birds of prey. Yes, he has to eat too. Circle of life baby.

    1. That is the third sighting of the hawk. I will be upset if he gets a titmouse. But meanwhile, I must remember to wear more then undies....these poor birdies eyes.

  3. The hawk that visits our feeders is not too bright. He will sit on top of the feeder pole and let everyone know he is there. Loved the pictures! Enjoy your snow. xoxoxoxo

  5. My brother-in-law says it looks like a sharp-shinned hawk. They're bird eaters. Great pictures, but sad outcome!

The snowman had us all laughing.

  6. So pretty before it's all muddied and trampled!

    I heard a weatherman say Boston was suffering from a Four'easter! For a moment, i thought he'd called it a Whore'easter!

He was too quick for the hawk no doubt. I always wonder how the doves escape...their not usually the brightest.

  19. You have all the same visitors as I do! Although I'm still waiting for the return of the bluejays.

And there are more cardinals than usual this year. But if I see a hawk kill a bird, it will break my heart. I don't know we have any, I never see any, anyhow.
