FATEFUL DAY VISITED

"We Remember, We Rebuild, We Come Back Stronger" -President Obama.
There is just something in One World Trade Center that draws you there. Ever since that fateful day of September 11, it has been a symbol of evil and terror. After all this time, I felt I finally wanted to go up to New York for the day and finally see it.  It was a lot to take in and I can see why if someone knew someone who loss their life in that fateful day,  it took years for people to recover.  One of the clan members , Preston, who lives in NY went with me and we made a day of it starting with breakfast at a place called the Gentleman Farmer.

After breakfast if was off to see One World Trade Center. These days though, there is a breath of fresh air. There is still that calm surrender when you see "Ground Zero" but it now represents a symbol of hope and perseverance. One World Trade Center now boasts, an amazing observatory in which you can be on top of the tower. It actually feels more like you are on Top of the World! But amidst all these amazing rebuild, they never forget and they continue to honor that tragic event. The new complex had the Freedom Tower, with other high rises, Oculus Transportation Center and a Memorial Park and Museum.  I didn't do the museum. But I thought the design and meaning on the new complex couldn't be designed any better. And the views atop of the Freedom Tower were incredible.
I understand the Oculus Center was designed to look like a dove with wings out. That is very cool.
It was a good day and glad I finally went to see it. One World Trade Center will be forever etched in history, and the place and city indeed came back stronger.
Preston captured my better side!

Have a great Monday all!!!!

  1. Glad you were able to go. I think most of us remember a lot about that day. I remember going to the store to buy stuff to make cookies as I knew I would have the whole neighborhood tribe in my living room after school. Middle schoolers and young high schoolers - and how do you talk to them about this.

    1. Even having never been to the old site, it was still emotional and eerie knowing what happened there. A day no one is sure to forget.

I’d like to go to pay my respects, and give thanks for the people who died, if that’s the right way to explain it. Thanks for taking me on your visit.

  4. I think most people can remember what they were doing that day when it first started happening.
Wow crazy views, you know it's high up when you're looking DOWN at skyscrapers. I bet you were looking at lady Liberty and thinking, "I'd look so hot in that dress and holding the torch!

  5. Any side of you is I'm sure you're better side. We were finally there (the memorial, not any of your sides) in September. Very moving. We didn't, however, go up, which I think I'd like to do next time.

    1. You two would enjoy it. We had a very small line to wait in, not bad at all. Once up, it was a very nice crowd, not packed and one could leisurely mill about and just think.

  6. I love the design of the Oculus Center. It looks more like a hawk to me, but what do I know from birds. Thanks for sharing.

    1. Either way, a very cool design and concept. Dove...a sign of peace. Although general feedback I was hearing, the building is not as useful and accommodating... as it is stylist.

  8. As much as I want to go, I had a good, close, life long friend lose her life that day....I don't know I'll ever be able to go. But I loved your post on this and the reflecting pools are very well done to show in memory of the original towers. They really did a beautiful job. Very cool.

But your backside and the breakfast made me feel nice!!!!

    1. I agree. I don't know if they still do it, but I know when they were in the rebuild stage they used to have two huge beams of light that went up to represent the towers at night. I still wish they did that to, if they aren't. It was really cool to see those.

  10. Wow! Your got some lovely pictures Mistress.

Great visitor experience with amazing views over NYC. On the day William and I visited there was a person giving a very informative talk on the history of NY and it was a great experience. We also happened to go near sunset...truly amazing...and very moving. I haven't got emotional at a site like that since I was at the Holocaust Museum in DC. We didn't do the museum at One. The park and Freedom tower was enough for one day.

  11. Thank you for sharing these magnificent fotos of your trip. The Empire State Building, the Statue of Liberty, and the bridges. The architecture is astounding! The views are superb! That skyline is like no other. What wondrous skyscrapers!

The memorial looks grand and resplendent. It is a marvelous masterpiece. And the food looks amazing, too!

  12. I'm glad you had a chance to go. History will concur this place represents hope. As for Trump Tower, that will be known as a place of evil and horrors once this is all over.

  15. I'd like to visit the One World Trade Center someday, but then I'd like to visit Manhattan in general some day. I've never been there. I have been to Chicago, which also has an impressive skyline, what I always imagined (outside of looking at a photo) New York's to look like. In fact, I felt like singing "I'll Take Manhattan" except, of course, I was in Chicago.
